Mice are still causing nightmares for farmers and rural communities in many parts of NSW, as evidenced by this friday night footage from a family farm near Gilgandra #nswfarmers #miceplague

Adding cereal oversown has shown to reduce the chance of a successful pasture, mainly in decile 1-3. Decile 5 still successful if sown early enough with good management. Pasture Sown alone can sometimes get success in decile 2-3. Ideally into a good stubble.

Good pasture establishment this year, comparing sown alone vs 12 inch pasture on 24 inch wheat spacing. Wheat oversown looks to be the winner this year with big wheat returns $/ha + sufficient pasture. @AuNutrien @swseedcompanyau

Missed spray patch in vetch, Botrytis Grey mould would have smoked the paddock. carbendazim 500ml + tebuconazole 150ml + clethodim has worked a treat.

Contaminated seed in Lancer caused a scare from stripe rust, individual plants with heavy infection with clean plants neighbouring told the tale, Lancer is holding strong with APR working

Canola (OP) seed retention blocks - can we manipulate canopy via plant density to grow larger seed? How important is spatial arrangement? Trials evaluating 6,15 & 45 plants/m2 @ random and even spatial distribution. #canolaseedcrops #grdc

Early sown vs late April sown canola. OP’s and retained seed far behind hybrids in general this year with Pythium, waterlogging and Jassids.

It might be the ultimate pain in the bum in that year, but cutting down Wheat for hay, when the Ryegrass is prolific, reaps long term rewards. #ShortTermPainLongTermGain Then you see this result & start thinking “Why didn’t I do more?” 🤔

16th March vs 16th April sown vetch, planned for grazing and September spray out for canola 2021, hopefully with plenty of moisture left and N build up.
