Watkins played his sophomore year of high school at since-closed Mater Dei Prep in Middletown. The 2018 Shore Conference final featured a 2nd round pick on each team: Watkins on Mater Dei, Scottie Lewis on Ranney.
The Washington Wizards have selected Florida State's Jamir Watkins with the No. 43 pick. Outstanding defender with an NBA-ready frame and a 6-foot-11 wingspan who filled up the box score impressively in the ACC.

John Nacarlo returns to the sidelines as Southern's new boys soccer coach. The 4-time state-championship-winning coach at Holmdel takes over a team coming off its first ever Group 4 championship and No. 1 ranking in the Shore Conference.

Southern's coach's chair was a side story last season, when Rob Muñoz stepped down just before the state tournament. Assistant and former head coach Guy Lockwood took the reins and led the run to the Group 4 title. Lockwood stepped down as acting head coach earlier this spring.
Breaking news from the Shore in boys soccer: John Nacarlo was approved as Southern's new head coach Wednesday night. Nacarlo led Holmdel to 3 state championships in boys soccer and 1 in girls soccer. He now takes over the defending Group 4 champions, who return his son, Brody.
