This is excellent from @FraserNelson both on the facts but also on social media and how it re-shapes our sincerely held perceptions of reality. Understanding both is key to any political success - the facts are no longer enough.

Those who say ‘not this bill’ will I think always say it about all similar bills. Today is a once in a generation opportunity to help people who desperately need it now.
Diane Abbott in the debate on the Assisted Dying Bill explains why as someone who supports the principle of assisted dying, she is calling on MPs to vote against this specific Bill. Diane’s speech on how class, race, power and authority make this Bill dangerous was powerful.

Quite. There has been consensus across @conservatives that we should look at ECHR reform for many years now. In its absence leaving has always been the only option.

I think it’s unbearable that desperately vulnerable, terminally ill people don’t have the option to end their own lives legally & humanely, while well people do. But wherever you are on this bill, we would all be better off if legislation got @nmdacosta levels of scrutiny.
That's it then. 6 weeks in Committee. Over 500 amendments tabled. Just 18% (25) of those accepted were from those that voted against the bill. 🚨Any doctor can bring up ending your life.🚨High Court gone, replaced with a panel.🚨Independent oversight gone .🚨More powers taken.

Particularly coming after a member survey, this is significant and welcome. Changing the UK’s assisted dying legislation is hard, but it will be a huge improvement on the status quo.

On Ukraine, @JuliaHB1 devastatingly dissects the absurd position of Reform. And it gets to the heart of every single Reform policy: say anything for popularity without a single care for the hard realities of improving British people’s lives. Don’t let them get away with it.
Julia Hartley-Brewer clashes with Reform UK's Richard Tice as Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin begin talks to end the war in Ukraine. @JuliaHB1: "Which part of Britain would you give away?". Richard: "None at all.". Julia: "So it’s okay to give away a bit of Ukraine?"

I’m all for consumer convenience and cutting waste, but mandating USB-C in this way was fully ‘close the patent office because everything has been invented’ levels of stupidity - not least because the market was moving to USB-C anyway.
Hey! Did you know Europe took on Big tech and used its size to stand up to make us all more powerful …🤓 . We can either let Reform and co keep boasting cutting ties with other nations is smart, or tell the truth about the benefits of cooperation. When someone next 1/2

Trust is the most valuable thing in politics. @torstenbell is absolutely right. But regardless of one’s views on the last 14 years, you don’t rebuild it by claiming there’s a black hole and then inflating it with pay rises, or by raising taxes you said you wouldn’t.
