This week’s blog post ( https://t.co/tRmDEfOuyz) looks at the origins of current planning and conservation protections, with reference to conquest, plague, the Great Fire of London, and more. It’s rare that the 1882 Act looks like a young whippersnapper….

In other (equally exciting) planning news, the Government’s full response to July’s consultation has also been published ( https://t.co/k6ujxyMSKE). It lists the many further planning reforms we can expect to see in 2025: prepare yourselves. [1 of 5]

As festive traditions go, the issue of a pre-Christmas NPPF probably isn’t the *most* anticipated, but it does appear to be a thing, now. Following July’s consultation, the revised NPPF was issued yesterday ( https://t.co/LCklDcKH8j), and replaces last December’s version. [1 of 4]

This Sunday is the 80th anniversary of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1944. The 1947 Act of the same name gets all the glory, but 1944 was where today’s planning and listing started in earnest. The latest blog post looks at this important legislation: https://t.co/MqQUe0f9Ti.

Okay, okay... Bekonscot isn't *technically* in the designated area of the Chilterns National Landscape. 🙄

What have the @ChilternsNL and @CotswoldsNL got in common apart from being #NationalLandscapes with Conservation Boards? They've both got brilliant model villages! Find out more 👇
The latest post on the blog ( https://t.co/NUSqPDrocD) looks at two model villages with a strong heritage dimension: Bekonscot is the oldest model village, in a garden now recognised as a non-designated heritage asset, whilst Bourton-on-the-Water is listed at Grade II.

September marks the 30th anniversary of PPG15, the most eloquent - and certainly the longest - statement of planning policy on the historic environment. The latest blog post is a celebration, looking at its evolution, content, impact and successors: https://t.co/dtg9jlVSdR.

This is cool*, and surely unique, but by no means the only weird and wonderful icehouse in the @ChilternsNL (see link in original tweet). * #SeeWhatIDidThere?
I have a new favourite icehouse: the extraordinary air raid shelter/icehouse combination @StonorPark. Fascinating in its own right, but also a rare and welcome opportunity to get inside an icehouse. The blog post on icehouses has been updated accordingly: https://t.co/9xm8HbI6Oa.

Did I miss the memo? When did "Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects" become "National Strategic Infrastructure Projects"?

Great that the Minister recognises @RTPIPlanners' importance in delivering "the infrastructure the country needs". Landscapes, nature sites and heritage assets are critical infrastructure, and we need to conserve, enhance and grow these too. @NatLandAssoc @WCL_News @Heritage_NGOs
Planners will play a vital role in delivering the homes and infrastructure the country needs in the years ahead. We value the profession and look forward to working with it to deliver change. My letter to RTPI President @LARichards23 👇🏻 https://t.co/SfEWGWvCfe

This is *really* useful!
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has launched a consultation on ‘proposed reforms to the NPPF and other changes to the planning system’: https://t.co/ST6a8MjU41. It closes on 24/09/24, and there are 106 questions…. [1 of 14]

They've corrected it now, but I was delighted to see that @DefraGovUK originally listed among new Minister @MaryCreagh_'s responsibilities "National Landscapes, including National Parks", correctly interpreting the central proposal of the Glover #LandscapesReview.
