🧵 4 years ago, we started the work to bring a 100% affordable development to the heart of Lincoln Square. After countless hours working alongside community groups and government leaders, I'm so proud that we finally broke ground on 60+ new affordable homes at 4715 N Western!

Medical debt isn't an indicator of financial responsibility and shouldn't impact your ability to sign a lease. Disappointing but not surprising Trump sides with credit agencies over good policy. Chicago can help by forgiving years-old ambulance ride debt. https://t.co/rx3lV3eoJi

Under the Biden administration, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau finalized a rule barring medical debt from appearing on credit reports. Now, the agency is siding with the credit industry...

Evanston did it, and so can we. This week, I introduced legislation to do away with exorbitant move-in fees and fix our security deposit system. https://t.co/cBS0mcXVXv

Security deposit regulations overreached. So now Chicago is stuck with worse “move-in fees.”

It's common sense: carjacking victims shouldn't be on the hook for traffic tickets for their stolen vehicle. But that's been the City's policy. We should support victims, not add stress and cost. Today, my proposal to automatically dismiss these tickets passed in City Council.

We can't afford backsliding on air quality in Chicago. That means we need bold action that confronts the reality of climate change, including: 🚏Expand bus lines 🚆Rehab aging El infrastructure 🚶Safer streets for pedestrians and bikers 🔌More public EV chargers
New ranking says Chicago's air among most polluted in America amid 'distressing reversal' nationwide

City employees and cops participating in extremist groups could face discipline and firing under an ordinance proposed by Ald. @MattMartinChi. Meanwhile, the mayor's office is convening a working group to assess extremism in city gov't. https://t.co/P9J9skpqG3 w/ @TomSchuba

The plan from Ald. Matt Martin, 47th Ward, follows growing calls for the Chicago Police Department and Mayor Brandon Johnson to fire cops with ties to extremist groups.

I talked to the 47th Ward's own Ben Joravsky about the upcoming election and more. If you're nervous about the election, do something about it. It's now or never. https://t.co/7abuS8KyTg

For 117 years, the 9th precinct of the 47th Ward has been "dry." That means restaurants like family owned XOchimilco can't get a liquor license. On 11/5, neighbors can vote "No" on continuing this prohibition and to support our small businesses. https://t.co/NEyf41b0JU

The liquor ban dates back to a failed attempt by beer baron Adolphus Busch to create a fairground at what is now Welles Park. Neighbors can now vote to repeal the dry status.

UPDATE: Aldermen will take a first vote on lowering Chicago's speed limit to 25 mph Monday. Pedestrian & Traffic Safety Committee to consider that + allowing folks to submit pics of illegal parking for tickets. If those pass, could face a final full council vote Tuesday. Agenda:
Chicago speed limit lowered to 25 mph? That's the goal of an ordinance Ald. Daniel La Spata is introducing today. It would also allow Chicagoans to submit photos of cars violating bus & bike lanes — a pilot that mimics Bike Lane Uprising, but would give drivers real tickets.

Ellen knows the challenges our public schools face because she’s seen them – as a teacher, a parent, and a family engagement specialist at CPS. We need someone with Ellen’s experience and willingness to work with everyone to solve the short- and long-term challenges facing CPS

I got to know Ellen when she chaired the LSC at her neighborhood school, Bell Elementary. I appreciated how she made sure every parent’s voice was heard, whether it was the annual budget process, prioritizing infrastructure improvements, or expanding STEM opportunities. (2)

I’m proud to support my friend @ellenforedu for District 2 School Board. She began her career teaching 3rd grade at Hartigan and Dulles on the South Side Being a teacher is tough – even more so when our public schools don’t have the resources they need. But Ellen got to work (1)
