Probably the most frustrating thing with direct to consumer is when the butcher shop screws up.
We have a freezer full of steaks I’m 99.99% certain aren’t ours (junk) and a hog and a half that has nearly no smoke flavor in the hams and bacon. 😩

Now that I’m an adult it’s 10% driving a tractor and 90% fixing, spending money, checking on stuff, going to get parts and more fixing.

In 2006 two college buddies and myself drove all over MN and ended up in Ayr North Dakota to buy this gem for $3900.
I ran it for 5 harvests, about 1000 acres each. I loved it, it was very reliable.
And now the new owner is onto newer things and it’s for sale again.

I’m 39 and have no interest in getting bigger. I’m far more interested in being more profitable with less of everything.
Any livestock facility is a not a death sentence but it is a life sentence to get your money back out of it, so keep that in mind.

We’ve usually done well with contracts with JBS GB but the last load that looked great never caught that profitable window. They looked nice, but of course they had to pick them apart and dock us for this or that. Pissed me of, might go 100% freezer beef instead. I wrote this..
