Wyoming Area: STATE CHAMPS! Can't say enough about that comeback. Down 14-0. Win 21-14. Senior QB/S Dominic DeLuca was legendary in that second half. Got injured. Came back. Played both sides of the ball. Scored three touchdowns. Historic.

Some personal news: Friday is my last day at The Citizens’ Voice.
To my co-workers; the readers; the great athletes, coaches and teams who gave me so many memorable stories to write; the parents, officials, administrators and all personnel who enrich local sports: THANK YOU.
FINAL: Wyoming Seminary beats Newport 2-0 for the PIAA Class A field hockey title. The Blue Knights are state champs for the seventh time! Add that to the conference and district titles this team has already won. What a season.
Ji'Ayir Brown and Jaquan Brisker took a chance, came to Scranton, worked hard, opened eyes, won big, received scholarships and are now living out a dream.
Always proud to say these guys made the most of their opportunities.
Great day for PSU and

In Tuesday's CV: my feature on Wyoming Area field hockey freshman Toni Minichello and senior Abigail Gober. Gober, daughter of the late Anne Gober, and Minichello, daughter of the late Marc E. Minichello, honor their parents' memory whenever they're on (and off) the field.
High school softball catch of the year? It may have happened last night at Berwick. Here’s the

Won a state championship ... hosted Southern Columbia ... shut out Scranton Prep twice ... won a close one against Lake-Lehman, then blew them out the second time around ... won the Eastern Final at Valley West ... blew out rival PA. List goes on. Memorable year for Wyoming Area.
What an amazing run by this Tunkhannock Little League softball team. As if winning the district, section, state and region wasn't enough, Tunkhannock will play 10 p.m. Wednesday on ESPN for the Little League World Series title. It gets no bigger than this for Little League.
FINAL: Valley West beats Palmyra 2-1 in the PIAA Class 2A field hockey state championship. The Spartans are STATE CHAMPS for the second time in program history.
Dominic DeLuca’s NIL deal with MarRosa’s, an Italian food and sauce company, is what NIL is all about.
The Penn State linebacker is coming home to West Pittston next month for a public appearance — and tasting!
FINAL: Wyoming Seminary beats Oley Valley 1-0 in double overtime for the PIAA Class A field hockey championship. Grace Parsons scores the winner. Blue Knights are state champs, again!
Watching the Little League World Series game with my dad, who says of Tunkhannock, "Give them all credit in the world that they made it that far." Tunkhannock finishes runner-up in one of the all-time best seasons by a local Little League team. Great, fun playoff run.
FINAL: Wyoming Seminary beats Greenwood 4-0 in the PIAA Class A field hockey semifinals. The Blue Knights are headed back to the state championship! They’ll play for the title 10 a.m. Saturday in Whitehall.
Sad news to report. The coronavirus claimed Delores Shershen, the beloved

“towel lady,” who served Redeemer and Bishop O’Reilly sports teams for two decades. A nice woman who called our office regularly for scores. More on Delores’ life and death in Wednesday’s CV.
First base umpire says, “This stuff is terrible ... set music back 50 years,” as Migos’ Stir Fry plays out of the Nanticoke Area dugout. Might be the worst call I’ve heard by a PIAA official.
Starting today at Hanover Area, where the Hawkeyes’ softball team is playing its annual game against students from the school’s life skills program. The life skills team is winning big!
Here is Madison Woods' (

) game-winning goal that sent Valley West to the state championship. Goalkeepers Nikki Hartzel and Sydney Rusnock with the combined shutout
Today, Grace Parsons scored her first goal of the season for Wyoming Seminary. It just happened to be a game-winner. In overtime. Of the state championship.
Bobby Sura appreciation post. That this kind of basketball player came from Wilkes-Barre is forever one of my favorite pieces of local sports history:
• two state title games with GAR
• All-ACC, Elite 8 at Florida State
• NBA Draft first round, 10-year vet

Alexis Lewis is taking her talents to the Big East. With hopes of playing professionally, Lewis will transfer from Iona to Seton Hall. She will sit out a season (due to NCAA transfer rules) and play again in 2019-20. Read more in Thursday's

FINAL: Wyoming Area beats Boiling Springs 1-0 in the PIAA Class A field hockey quarterfinals. The Warriors are going to the state’s Final Four in Class A for the first time ever.

This is a great honor. Favorite part: my entry focuses on high school sports in a category dominated by colleges and even a pro beat. That's a credit to all the local talent in WVC field hockey and WVC sports, period. The teams, players and coaches are what make great stories.
Amazing day for WVC field hockey with two state champions — Wyoming Seminary and Wyoming Valley West — right down the road from one another in Kingston. Congrats, Blue Knights and Spartans!
When she needs inspiration — on the field, in the classroom, in life — Kelsey Reznick does not need to look very far. My story (one of the favorites I’ve written) on the bond between brother and sister
FINAL: Wyoming Valley West beats Villa Maria 3-1 in the PIAA Class 2A field hockey semifinals. The Spartans are going to play Saturday for a state championship.
So, all three girls soccer teams from the WVC that made the PIAA state playoffs (Dallas, Berwick, Lake-Lehman) won in the first round and advance to the quarterfinals. That’s gotta be a first for the WVC. Pretty amazing accomplishment by the trio.

FINAL: Wyoming Seminary beats Oley Valley 2-0 in the PIAA Class A field hockey semifinals. The Blue Knights will play Saturday for the state championship.
Pittston Area baseball wins a district championship. A few days later, Pittston Area softball wins a district championship. Considering it's only the second gold medal for the softball team, this is the first spring when the Patriots won a district title in both sports.
FINAL: Wyoming Area beats Lake-Lehman 1-0 in the District 2 Class 2A girls soccer championship. The Warriors are district champs, for the first time ever. What a game! A classic. Aleah Kranson scored the goal. WA defense was incredible. Lehman never gave up.

Oh wow. Unfortunately my photos aren’t totally in focus, but Dallas’ Luke DelGaudio just went up for a jump ball against 5-star Imhotep recruit Enai White. DelGaudio intercepted it. First drive of the second half. Dallas leads 21-14.
Not something you see every Friday, thankfully. Best wishes to Jake DelGaudio, who acknowledged the crowd/team with a raised arm as he entered the ambulance.
FINAL: Pittston Area beats Meyers 54-53 in WVC boys basketball. What a game! The Patriots now have six wins — as many as they had all last season. Here’s the winning shot by Logan Booth.
@CoachKies
Thanks so much everyone for following along tonight. An unforgettable night for all involved with Wyoming Seminary and Valley West field hockey. But also one of the most memorable nights yet in my career writing about sports. Let's do it again Saturday.
I like James Franklin more than most Penn State fans, but the decision to take the ball out of Trace McSorley’s hands in the season’s most critical moments — 4th & 5 tOSU, 4th & 6 today — is SUPER questionable.

There are 48 high school softball teams left in the PIAA state playoffs. You gotta figure it's half eastern part of the state, half west. Of that group, five teams are from the Wyoming Valley Conference. This is the type of state success usually reserved for WVC field hockey.
Holy Redeemer’s Livia Moore steals the ball and then hits a half-court 3-pointer to end the third quarter. Redeemer trails Lake-Lehman, 35-34.

Today’s most-read story online: An emotional week for Abie Sorokas has also featured some of the best field hockey she’s ever played. Thanks to
@abiesorokas
for sharing her story, and everyone else who had kind things to say about her late father.
FINAL: Wyoming Seminary beats Lehighton 11-0 in the PIAA Class A field hockey quarterfinals. What a performance by Sem. That's the most goals ever scored in a Class A state playoff game since the classification was created in 2016.
FINAL: Wyoming Seminary beats Holy Redeemer 56-39 for the District 2 Class 3A boys basketball championship. The Blue Knights' first district title since 1986. Todd Phillips scored 17 points and Dimitri Gnall added 15.
FINAL: Valley West beats Selinsgrove 3-1 in the PIAA Class 2A field hockey quarterfinals. The Spartans are headed to the state's Final Four, where they will play Donegal on Tuesday.
Sem goalkeeper Mia Magnotta was the only freshman who started tonight for either team. And you could argue she was one of the most impressive players on the field with a two-save shutout.
Team USA Field Hockey added a pair of local players to its teams this week. Wyoming Seminary teammates Alex Wesneski, a senior, and Emma Watchilla, a freshman, were respectively chosen to the U.S. rise and U-16 women's national teams.
FINAL: Wyoming Area finally slays the dragon and defeats Wyoming Seminary, 1-0, spoiling the Blue Knights’ hopes of winning a fifth consecutive state championship.
The
@USAFieldHockey
women's national team (highest level of competition) now has three players who graduated from schools in the WVC. Danielle Grega of Kingston earned her promotion to the senior team Monday. She joins Anna Dessoye and Kat Sharkey.
WVC GIRLS HOOPS: Coaches’ all-star selections ...
• Division 1 MVP: Lauren Charlton of Dallas
• Division 1 Player of the Year: Marissa Trivelpiece of Hazleton Area
• Division 2 MVP: Sam Yencha of Holy Redeemer
• Division 2 POTY: Sarah Salus of Lake-Lehman
FINAL: Wyoming Area beats Lake-Lehman 3-0 in the District 2 Class A field hockey semifinals. Historic win for the Warriors, who have qualified for their first district championship game and their first PIAA state tournament.
The WVC will send five golfers to states
• Jessica McClellan of MMI Prep
• Kyleen McCance of Hanover Area
• Jeremy Callahan of Wyoming Seminary
• Bobby Lugiano of Lake-Lehman
• Logan Paczewski of Dallas
If that seems like a lot, well, it is. Great performance by WVC players.
FINAL: Wyoming Seminary beats Wyoming Area 1-0 in double overtime for the District 2 Class 1A field hockey championship. What a game by the Blue Knights and Warriors, a classic!
Check out Sunday’s
