Thanks for a thought-provoking day @NCETM. The rich discussions & opportunities to collaborate & listen to the experiences of others on the School Development Lead training day were really beneficial. I’m looking forward to implementing what I’ve learned with the subject leaders.

At Learning Academies Trust we collaborate & share good practice as much as possible in order to benefit all of our children. @SalisburyRdPrim & @HighViewPlym have both hosted @NCETM work groups over the last couple of weeks, which will have a positive impact on many children

It was great to hear and see the year 1 pupils at Hooe Primary confidently use dienes to make two digit numbers and describe their composition using the relevant vocabulary and sentence stems to frame their answers. Super maths! @WhiteRoseEd @CiaraEMoran @learningatceo

The ‘Learning through stories is just for KS1’ webinar @WhiteRoseEd conference was very interesting. The use of sentence stems alongside a book can provide a stimulus & excellent oracy opportunities in maths lessons. Definitely an area I want to explore further in the future.

It was fantastic to work with TAs from across @learningatuk to develop skills in using manipulatives for different concepts. I was pleased to hear the TAs work in KS2 so our older children have the opportunity to use manipulatives to support their mathematical understanding.

Take a look at these written explanations from some of our children in years 1 to 5 @woodfieldplym and @MountStreetPlym. It’s great to see the children using the correct mathematical vocabulary and stem sentences to fully explain their thinking. @learningatceo @WhiteRoseEd

Our maths subject leaders had a fantastic training session tonight on using bar modelling effectively for a range of mathematical concepts. Through using a bar model consistently from early years through to year 6, the children can become confident in using the bar as a pictorial.
