From Earth. Likes reason, science, equality, tasty stuff, and heavy weights. Gets paid to fire electrons at perovskites in Oxford.

A reputable journal wants to use our proposed, student-made graphics for the journal cover (yay), but they want 1650 USD for the privilege. Feels a bit like paying to do their work. Is this normal? @AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter

So @thameswater could spend a million pounds a day, including weekends, on improving their infrastructure, and they would still make nearly ÂŁ10k profit per employee per year #EnoughIsEnough

Hi all, as my PhD is soon coming to an end, I have started looking for jobs. I am interested in photovoltaics project development, policy making, data processing and engineering, maybe even consulting for PV companies. Anyone has some recommendations? RT would be nice, thanks!

Almost daily I pass the #ghostbike where a driver killed Samantha Blackborow when he "didn't see her". Lately it has been decorated for her birthday. Driving a vehicle is a huge responsibility many take lightly, with heartbreaking consequences. Happy birthday, Sam. @cycloxoxford

One of my first craft beer loves was @BrewDog, but holy hell have they powered their ship straight down a disgusting drain of harassment, intimidation, and gaslighting lately, handily helped along by Wiser 🤮 #boycottbrewdog
At least one former BrewDog employee who spoke to a consultancy last year as part of a culture review says her information was shared with BrewDog without her consent. A complaint has been filed with a government watchdog, @kbernot reports: https://t.co/CIXYz8mOCU

We're getting really poor returns on all the energy currently being trapped because of our fossil fuel addiction but, hey, big cars are cool, right?
NASA's CERES radiative flux data for 2021 has come available. The annual Earth's Energy Imbalance was +1.52 W/m², the energy equivalent to 1 million Hiroshima sized atomic bombs every day. The rate of global warming has tripled in the past 20 years.

Making sense of energy price rises is important. They’re going to be the cause of a lot of poverty in the UK, soon. So, I’ve been doing some analysis. What follow is a bit simplified, but not too much. What it reveals is that you’re about to be ripped off, massively. A thread….

Incredibly honoured and humbled to be invited to give a talk in this excellent series 🙏 If you're into perovskites and looking at atoms I'd highly recommend coming along, it's going to be fun! @SnaithGroup @OxfordPhysics @PerovskiteTweet @KitaK001 @OxfordMaterials
📅Save the date 📅 Wednesday next week @MathiasThinks will present his amazing work on electron #microscopy of #perovskite materials! Get ready to see some amazing pictures!📸 https://t.co/99F3oriDwZ

Somewhere along the way we forgot how to treat people in danger. This guy had the right idea.
Today is Holocaust Memorial Day. In 1938, Sir Nicholas Winton brought Jewish children from German-occupied Czechoslovakia to safety in the UK. Fifty years later, That’s Life reunited him with some of those children. https://t.co/t4AdCNdXrs

What a ledge
Once again Barbados PM Mia Mottley has been the one who has delivered the speech the world needed. May she be heard, may we rise. Take 8 minutes to listen to the whole thing. Share the lines that grabbed you most. #COP26

I know it sounds crazy but it's almost as though having a system that captures and stores CO2 from industrial processes in general could have prevented this 🤔 #CO2crisis #CO2

Let’s talk Delta for a second, shall we? Most of you probably know by now, but the basic reproduction number, or R0, is how epidemiologist gauge the infectiousness of a particular virus. It’s also looked at as the average number of people an infected person will infect. 1/X

If you happen to come across an exhausted bee it's totally fine to pick it up, bring it home, and feed it some sugar water. Not only do you help an important living creature survive, you also get to experience the cutest little slurps ever #savethebees
