PS: If you think the figure is ugly or suspect it of being cursed (I give no guarantees, but trust me that I didn't set out to infuse it with demonic agency), you don't HAVE to enter the raffle!

Out of all feature-length movies produced in the US, how big of a proportion comes with a "horror" tag on IMDB? Here's an estimate (prepared for my @CigaretteBurns_ talk tonight):

Shitty horror movies can be fun to watch. But a shitty comedy? Thriller? Drama? Not so much. Well yes, okay, there's The Room, but dramas have to be VERY, VERY bad before they become so-bad-they're-good.

Why would that be? One explanation is that even "bad" horror movies can satisfy audiences (who may not be looking for cinematic craftsmanship or psychological complexity, but who want some gory and/or jump-scare-fueled fun with friends)?

Horror stands out from other genres in its very low correlation between critical reception and profitability. Horror movies often succeed financially regardless of what critics think. Learn more at https://t.co/zYldngvSVZ.
