Sam Raimi nostalgia is protecting Spider-Man, not unlike Donner nostalgia with Superman to a LESSER degree, from the blatant propagandism that wants to conflate superheroes with ānational heroesā. They want you to see the US armed forces and think āthatās Captain Americaā.

Actually, it's exactly what Reed would do. If you get a chance, check out Avengers/New Avengers by Jonathan Hickman. It shows a really good example of Reed struggling between his science side and his human side.
