Always fascinated with the “what is university for” question. When rich kids are involved: “university is so much more than getting a job: it’s about enriching the soul/rounding you out as a human being”. When it’s a poor kid: “but will this really help them get a better job?”

This 'science advisor' is a psychologist. I really can't believe we are attempting to 'nudge' our way out of this with soft science when we need hard science. Epidemiologists are the scientists to listen to.
Government #coronavirus science advisor Dr David Halpern tells me of plans to ‘cocoon’ vulnerable groups.

Sorry but I actually think Swinson is performing well and providing fairly compelling answers given the questions she’s getting #bbcqt.

A friendly challenge to @RichardvReeves and co who say that it is Western strides in equality - leaving lost boys’ and men with few role models and diminished prospects - which are ultimately behind the rise of Andrew Tate. This narrative feels right. Is it true? 🧵

We’ve never had a problem believing women. Throughout history, our only issue has ever been with this one bitch, who is lying. How Depp v Heard could kill #MeToo Me for @ObserverUK

@caitlinmoran That said, I like how much more likely men are to go on an errand if you present it as a ‘quest’.

It is very painful to vote for my people to stay in slavery in Egypt. But I hope we can now work together to remedy the defects.
It is very painful to vote for this deal. But I hope we can now work together to remedy its defects, avoid the backstop trap and strive to deliver the Brexit people voted for.

@DrProudman Yes - and why do men think this stuff? It’s not because they have really been “left behind” by feminism as some are saying - but because these sexist narratives are still floating around. It’s not too much equality, but too much patriarchy

The war in Ukraine shows us starkly just how exploitative commercial surrogacy is. #InternationalWomensDay 🧵(1/8)

Deal with Hitler ✅.Deal with the EU ❌.
🚨 NEW: A ReformUK candidate has claimed the UK should have ‘taken Hitler up on his offer of neutrality’ instead of fighting the Nazis. [@bbclaurak].

Asking people not to stockpile stuff in case it runs out always works.
.@MattHancock asks the public to not stockpile medicine in preparation for a no-deal Brexit and says that they will work with the pharmaceutical industry to reach demand. #Peston

@caitlinmoran Yes but these are things written and said by people who mistake arguments against the patriarchy for the argument there is something inherently bad about men and boys. There isn’t. And all that is best about the male and female character are things we share!.

Me in this week’s @spectator on why the rise and rise of pop psychology in the discourse (triggering, narcissism, self-care, boundaries, projection, imposter syndrome) is bad for the left

Their faces when she loses mv3 and doesn’t resign.
Tory minister after Tory minister tonight saying how dignified and brave the PM is, these are the same ones who have been plotting and undermining her for months and months trying to force her out of the door. Their manoeuvring&sycophant comments will not be fooling anybody! 👎.

I think this is the worst one yet. Follow the rules unless Hancock has personal experience of how hard they are to follow. Then it is “entirely right” to break them.
I know how ill coronavirus makes you. It was entirely right for Dom Cummings to find childcare for his toddler, when both he and his wife were getting ill.

Omg this is excellent work. Every company that virtue signals about International Women's Day gets a tweet from @PayGapApp calculating its own gender pay gap.

Wow - just giving up beef and lamb (not that difficult) would have huge effect on greenhouse gas emissions - you don’t have to go full vegan to massively help environment (ht @henrymance). Important to allow people to virtue signal about not eating beef
