The idea of private sector involvement in research projects can't be taken for granted. The private sector is key for scaling up impact- Prof. Dorothy Nakimbugwe @Makerere staff& founder member of Nutreal, one of the private companies collaborating with the NutriFishPlus Project.

Funded by the @IDRC_CRDI & the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) through the Cultivate Africa’s Future Fund Phase (CultiAF2), the NutriFishPlus Project will cover 9 landing sites around Lakes Victoria, Kyoga & Albert. @ACIARAustralia

While small pelagic fish like Mukene (silver fish) are nutrient-rich & abundant, overall fish consumption is low (about half the FAO recommended amount). High post-harvest losses & export reduce domestic availability. The NutriFishPlus Project aims to scale-up consumption.

Winning the NutriFishPlus grant is a great opportunity for us to solidify the achievements of the 1st phase as the funding enables us to move beyond research to embed these nutritional & technological solutions into the livelihoods of local communities- Dr. Efitre. @MakNutrifish

Under NutriFishPlus, the project team will increase the participation & benefits for women, youth & marginalized groups across the Small Pelagic Fishes value chain. The team will also scale up the adoption of solar tent dryers to improve quality & reduce losses- Dr J. Efitre, PI.
