Emmett Till would be 77 today. I'm rereading "I saw Emmett Till this week at the grocery store" by @eveewing and reflecting on the ordinary life that was stolen from us, like so many others.

Our principal (who is definitely NOT an Ava) has been doing so much to support staff in this crazy time. Today we got lunch and some inspiration from @AbbottElemABC π . Hey @quintabrunson, @khsaphila loves your show! Thanks for helping get us through this year!

Lots of folks have posted, liked, or reblogged this cross stitch of @prisonculture's words since I made it a few years ago. Almost all my stitching borrow fonts and borders from Subversive Crossstitch. Hopefully this can be useful!

Today a student finished The Poet X. She only had 20 or so pages left but was so eager to finish she begged a friend to spoil it. At the end of class, she told me she was done with a mile wide grin, and added "Mx., I never finished a book before." . Thank you @AcevedoWrites.

I got the best Monday surprise from the homies at @AbbottElemABC! Can't wait to rep my second favorite school (behind Kensington Does Too Much Academy, of course)! Thanks, @quintabrunson, for all you've done to shed a hilarious, nuanced light on our world of #phled.

π¨ NEW ZINE ALERT π¨.#phled students aren't informed about their rights under Policy 252 for Trans & GNC students, so we need to help them learn. The main enforcement is thru grassroots advocacy from students & educators.

Does @GovernorShapiro really think that Penn students, employees, and surrounding community (because it's an open campus in the middle of the city) feel "safer" with six foot fences limited access to campus? While students' property is tossed in the trash?.

CONGRATS PMA UNION!! πͺπ»βπ». I hope there is real work on repairing trust and relationships between management and workers, and an effort for the PMA to recover the public's trust after handling this so badly.
19th day of our historic strike: @PMA_Union has reached a tentative agreement with @philamuseum management!! There were 5 issues going into the strike. We got all 5. Management claimed they wouldnβt move. They did. Say it with us: UNITED WE FIGHT UNITED WE WIN

Blown away by our time with @Ebonyteach. She came in, sat down with us, introduced herself as a colleague, and then LISTENED to a roomful of teachers for two hours. I've never felt so respected by someone in education academia.

@WHYYunion @whyy I will NEVER become a member of @WHYY if they continue to mistreat their employees for demanding fair compensation. Like, never ever. Let me donate to the union, though.

Lol here's a racist call-out of Philly teachers that actually proves how essential and important the work is. My colleagues are badass.
SCOOP: A Philadelphia elementary school forced fifth-grade students to celebrate "black communism" and simulate a Black Power rally to "free Angela Davis" from prison. I've obtained exclusive whistleblower documents and photographs from the school. Here's the story. π§΅.

Thinking about the "lazy teacher" trope. Can you imagine if this got uncovered in any other public service profession?.
"The investigation has found numerous cops who have claimed to be too injured to work but at the same time launched new businesses, toiled at physically strenuous jobs, rode motorcycles, played sports, and ran marathons.".

Really awkward that you're pushing standardized testing this year π₯΄.
We shouldnβt go back to the schools of March 2020 β thatβs a low bar. Right now, we have the chance to be bold β stronger mental health support, better training, and the opportunity to address inequities that existed long before COVID-19.
