It is our sincere hope that someday Medieval Times is held accountable for their actions and takes real steps to address the systemic issues of poverty wages, sexual harassment, and animal mistreatment. So, for that effort, we look to you, our community, to carry on our mission.

Thank you to everyone who supported us on this journey. It’s not easy to fight for change — especially when you lose — but it is always worth it to do the right thing.

And more often than not they get away with flagrant violations of federal labor law because the National Labor Relations Board is understaffed, underfunded, and can only levy punishments that amount to a slap on the wrist.

We fought long and hard, but the fact is that we were never on a level playing field. Corporations (especially ones that aren’t accountable to shareholders, like Medieval Times) have little, if any, incentive to honor their legal obligations.

It is, quite simply, impossible to reach a contract with Medieval Times under these conditions.

Additionally, it became clear that for the nine months we were on strike Medieval Times was hard at work replacing us (which is also unlawful, during an unfair labor practice strike) with new employees not friendly to union ideology.

After our return to work, those of us who went on strike had to face unlawful retaliation from Medieval Times and relentless harassment from co-workers. As a result, many of our formerly striking members moved on to other jobs, and support for our union dwindled dramatically.

Today, the American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA) sent notice to Medieval Times officially relinquishing their role as our designated bargaining representative. Our union has reached the end of its journey.

Retaliation for going on strike is illegal, and Medieval Times will certainly have to answer for it with the @NLRB

In short, Medieval Times refuses to treat their performers with the dignity and respect we deserve as professionals in our respective crafts.

Performers in the show cast have been given no indication about when they will be cleared to return to their pre-strike performing roles.

After nearly two weeks back to work, our knights (some of whom with many years’ worth of show experience) have spent their days mucking stalls rather than engaging in weapons training or horseback riding — the fundamental components of their job.

An unconditional offer to return to work means that an employer must restore the former striker to their pre-strike job. To date, only our 🎺s have been reinstated into their pre-strike jobs (only to discover their hours reduced & job duties given to a newly-created job role).

If we’ve been quiet over here, it’s because we’re back at work and dealing with much of the same anti-union sentiment Medieval Times has thrown at us since day one. 😤
