Representativeness assessment of the pan-Arctic eddy covariance site network and optimized future enhancements
bg.copernicus.org
Abstract. Large changes in the Arctic carbon balance are expected as warming linked to climate change threatens to destabilize ancient permafrost carbon stocks. The eddy covariance (EC) method is an...

The ABCflux database: Arctic–boreal CO2 flux observations and ancillary information aggregated to monthly time steps across terrestrial ecosystems
essd.copernicus.org
Abstract. Past efforts to synthesize and quantify the magnitude and change in carbon dioxide (CO2) fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems across the rapidly warming Arctic–boreal zone (ABZ) have provided...

The volcanic eruption🌋 in #Tonga didn't just rattle the region. It also sent literal shockwaves around the globe. Even in Jena, more than 16,000 km away, we could register the change in air pressure at least twice at our weather station.

For @NewYorker, I traveled to the far reaches of Siberia to write about the accelerating thaw of the world’s permafrost, and what that heralds for the planet. (Nothing good.) Met some fascinating scientists and 24,000 year old microorganisms along the way.

Permafrost contains microbes, mammoths, and twice as much carbon as Earth’s atmosphere. What happens when it starts to melt?
