emergency physicians in training come here from around the world to see patients with firearm injuries like how Americans go to Africa to see patients with malaria.
I’ve been an ER doc for a while no winter has stretched us anything like COVID
and I was a resident at Elmhurst in NYC during the H1N1 pandemic flu season
we didn’t need refrigerator trucks.
yes the problem with the pandemic is The Kids These Days And Their Parties and not the people in positions of enormous power politicizing masks and gatherings and kneecapping public health solutions
As states like Texas and Florida see
#COVID
spikes,
@VP
says it's due to young people ignoring
#socialdistancing
guidance:
"Younger Americans have been congregating in ways that may have disregarded the guidance that we gave on the federal level for all the phases of reopening"
appreciate all the people saying health care workers should’ve been
#personoftheyear
thanks but I don’t need accolades–I need you to wear your mask, socially distance, and get your shots when you can
don’t bang on pots, get your shots!
MrsAware: do I have to wear real pants or are sweats ok?
me: it’s still COVID, sweat pants are real pants
MrsAware: everyone else isn’t acting like it’s still COVID
me: that’s why it’s still COVID
It is crazy how the antivaxx just don’t give up. They promised mass extinction events, widespread infertility, mutant babies. None of it happened and they’re still duping some of the richest, most gullible men on earth.
are your kids texting about medicine? know the signs:
BRB: bright red blood
LOL: lil old lady
NAD: no apparent distress
FU: follow up
SOB: shortness of breath
WTF: wheres the fentanyl
ROFL: rule out fractured leg
SMH: social & medical history
TBH: traumatic brain hemorrhage
South Dakota did not do any mandates. We trusted our people, gave them all the information and told them that personal responsibility was the best answer.
What should a parent of teens do? Tough call. The vaccine only works if given before onset of sexual activity, so if your older teen is already dating/sexually active they likely are already infected with HPV (40% inf rate).

@RepDLesko
when I worked on the hill I swapped out my metal for a carbon fiber money clip because I had to go through a metal detector every day to get to my office in a *checks notes* House office building
some personal health news:
in July, 2020, I started noticing some trouble walking & slurred speech, which gradually than quickly
I was eventually diagnosed with a paraneoplastic syndrome in March, 2021
I wrote about my experience in
@JAMANeuro
:
So far the most consequential action taken by Joe Biden is taking credit for the amazing vaccine production and rollout put in place by President Trump.
friendly reminder that
a) the public health experts all warned us that the plan working would look like we did too much
and
b) a lot of people are still getting very sick and dying
and
c) if it turns out that fewer people get sick & die that is a very good thing
I wear a mask for entire 8 hour ER shift without "struggling to breathe" and on the spectrum of "health care workers who wear masks all day" I'm probably somewhere in the middle of how long I wear a mask
not rushed, not experimental
mRNA vaccines were first piloted in the late 80s
Pfizer’s was developed in *January*; all the time between then & now has been testing
nearly 70,000 people in the phase 3 experiments showing Pfizer & Moderna covid vaccines are safe and effective
Someone should tell self-important anti-gun doctors to stay in their lane. Half of the articles in Annals of Internal Medicine are pushing for gun control. Most upsetting, however, the medical community seems to have consulted NO ONE but themselves.
BREAKING: Medical expert outlines how George Floyd experienced a cardiac arrhythmia during police restraint, testifies fentanyl and meth contributed to it as well as carbon monoxide from car exhaust
anyone have questions about the COVID vaccines?
I don't pretend to have all the answers but happy to address what I can and look up stuff myself as needed and try to answer any questions people have
Dropped Maggie at uni in Bristol today. From her new room you can see the room at Bristol Children's Hospital where, 17 years earlier, she spent 6 months fighting for her life against leukaemia.
Tears of joy.
Thank you NHS.
Hi, I'm an ER doctor in a movie. I have a mysterious, troubled past because I think I made a mistake that hurt someone (I didn't) and it haunts me. I channel this guilt into over-caring for my unrealistically sick patients and frequently shout "not today!" during resuscitations.

Hi, I’m a doctor in a movie. I’m very abrupt when talking to patients and generally am rude to their families. Frequently I will make decisions that make real doctors lose their minds. I drive a sports car and have an obvious personality disorder.
