Seeing a major wrestling promotion create this level of spectacle for a woman, let alone a BLACK woman feels so surreal 🥹 This is history and this feels so right.
Mercedes Moné is All Elite and the entire wrestling world is better for it 💰🔥
I really hope tonight was the final nail in the coffin for AEW trying to appease the fans that want them to be WWE-lite. Different products exist for different reasons. Focus on being a wrestling-focused alternative and let the sports entertainment people stay in their lane.
She defined that belt as a workhorse title, wrestled on TV, PPVs, & house shows frequently, and regularly did media appearances.
Most importantly, she made EVERYONE that stepped in the ring with her look good. Several women had their best matches with Stat. Near perfect reign.
One day we’re gonna have a conversation about the general refusal of many Black wrestling fans to support Black wrestlers unless they’re in WWE.
Black wrestlers are killing it in AEW, Impact, NJPW, etc but they don’t “matter” unless they’re in WWE. Why is that? It’s so stupid.
I realized Mox was a chatty Cathy irl when they put him on WrestleDream commentary and Nigel legit had to tell him to slow down because he was talking so fast 😭 I think he’s just one of those people who’s only talkative about things he’s passionate about. I’m like that too lol
Some may wonder what is the appeal of Eddie Kingston. This is it.
He literally had one shot and treated it like his life was on the line and knocked it out of the park.
That level of hunger & desperation to succeed is so rare in today’s wrestling but sorely needed.
Eddie Kingston's AEW debut, promo and match against Cody is special.
Not only because it's one of the best promos in AEW history but also because it revived Eddie's career.
Incredible.
There’s a full generation (mostly folks who entered post-WCW/pre-AEW) of “wrestling” fans who don’t like in-ring wrestling, especially considering that the word ‘wrestling’ wasn’t allowed to be said on TV for years.
We will continue to feel the effects of that for a LONG time.
Edge was my favorite wrestler growing up and now he’s in AEW! I’m literally in tears right now. I’m so freaking happy 🥹😭 Tonight has been so magical. I love it here!!!!!!!
#WrestleDream
“Such is life when you mix AEW & the NFL” 🤯
Showing that footage was 100% the right call. Part of being the alternative is taking risks and being unconventional. When you don’t have nostalgia to sell, you have to sell excitement with an edge. This is it.
I am no longer accepting pro wrestling opinions from people who don’t actually like wrestling matches or acknowledge wrestling matches as storytelling in 2024. I hope y’all find the 30 minute talk segments of your wildest dreams but I can’t take these baseless takes anymore.
For the first time in recent memory we’re watching a Black man be built as a top marquee talent on national televised wrestling. Not “Oh you’ve been here 10 years so here’s a 3 month run in the limelight” but actually being built as a megastar and some of y’all are so mad 😭
First Black AEW World Champion. There’s a lot to say in the coming hours and days but in my lifetime as a wrestling fan, moments like tonight are rare for people who look like me and every time it happens it’s something worth celebrating. So happy 🥹
Most people who are saying the footage being released is a dealbreaker for them watching AEW were 9/10 not planning to watch anyway.
Brawl Out/Brawl In discourse has been going on forever at this point. People made their minds up a long time ago & a video won’t change that 🤷🏾♀️
This is the same company who made STING lose to HHH at Wrestlemania to get one final dunk on WCW btw. There were always going to be limits on how close they’d let a co-founder of the biggest competitor in 2 decades get to the top prize in the company 🤷🏾♀️
AEW got me into NJPW, NOAH, Stardom, ROH, indie wrestling, etc. Like Kenny Omega said plenty of times before, AEW is a “gateway drug” into the rest of the wrestling world. I can honestly say I’m a better & more well-rounded lover of pro wrestling because AEW exists.
This is all proof that AEW should always focus on being the alternative because the other side gonna find a way to shoot themselves in the foot every time and bury all their workhorses in the process.
The Ospreay comments were 100% warranted btw. It’s 2024. Everyone in wrestling has different goals & mountains they want to climb. Maybe it’s Mania or the Tokyo Dome or Wembley or Arena Mexico. For some, it’s work-life balance. Trying to shame folks for that is lame as hell.
No other wrestling company has ever made a woman’s debut feel this important and y’all will simply have to cry about it or get with the program idk what else to tell you 🤷🏾♀️
I never talk about this on here but to this day, the only thing that we’ve ever heard from Adam Page’s mouth on the situation is “workers rights” and we didn’t even know what it meant at the time.
Pepsi Man has publicly slandered his coworkers on several occasions. ENOUGH.
Calling yourself a wrestling fan then proceeding to look down upon everything that doesn’t come out of Stamford is so pathetic. There’s nothing wrong with liking what you like but shitting on everybody else because you’re insecure about your lack of knowledge is getting old fast.
This was by far my favorite question I got to ask at the
#WrestleDream
media scrum.
I asked
@swerveconfident
about the potential of being AEW’s 1st Black World Champion and the role he plays in bringing Black viewership to the product. Great stuff here from both Swerve & TK.
Daniel Garcia clearly wants to be the guy to wave the banner for AEW and clearly the fans want it too.
Let him. Give him some gold, put him in a money feud, push him to the moon. He’s ready.
The Acclaimed was fun while it lasted. They will forever be one of AEW’s first true homegrown success stories but yeah, there’s no more juice left in this orange. Time to pivot and quickly.
The Acclaimed barely getting a pop in DAILY’S PLACE should be the final nail in the coffin. Time to split them up and let Bowens go on his own. It’s over bro.
Mobilizing with hashtags and petitions for Cody but not the other VERY serious recently documented issues in that company that deserve attention & support is actually unhinged.
AEW should not be the recurring topic of discussion at all the WM40 media stops.
Idk if it a deflection tactic from the ongoing trial or something else but this week more than ever, every company should be laser focused on themselves, their talent, & their product.
The consistent revision of wrestling history never ceases to annoy me. Cody was never the leader of Bullet Club. The worst part is that a lot of people will never actually fact check these claims for themselves so they just blindly believe this shit 🤦🏾♀️
Michael Cole: “The first leader of the Bullet Club, Finn Bálor facing another leader of the Bullet Club, Cody Rhodes.”
Graves: “Get those Twitter points Cole.”

AJPW fans view sending a low card NXT guy rather than a top guy to challenge for the Triple Crown (one of the most prestigious titles in wrestling history) as a sign of disrespect and it’s hard to argue with that logic.
The fans are not happy and it’s very obvious.
You can feel however you want about him for whatever reason but when that bell rings, Jack Perry is definitely HIM. Every PPV match he’s had delivered, probably why he was trusted to open the show so much.
This is 10x funnier when you know Okada has been waiting his entire career to be a goofball Young Buck/Final Boss hybrid 😭 you can tell he’s having a blast
One day we’re gonna have a conversation about the root of all this discourse when Japanese and Mexican talent are platformed in AEW.
Video packages or no video packages, there’s clearly no desire to acknowledge or respect these individuals so let’s call it what it really is 🫠
67-page document detailing sexual abuse & trafficking crimes from your former boss of over 25 years/father-in-law/grandfather of your daughters but you couldn’t be bothered to read it?
Hell is hot. Fucking disgusting.
If you see people my age (26) or younger shitposting about AEW being like WCW 2000, pls ignore them 😭 I was 3 when WCW folded & a lot of these people weren’t even thought of yet.
They have no idea what they’re talking about, they’re just regurgitating podcast talking points 💀
In less than 2 months, Willow Nightingale has main evented a NJPW PPV (1 of 2 women to do so), wrestled at Forbidden Door, wrestled in Korakuen Hall, won the Owen Hart Women’s Tournament, & now she’s main eventing
#ROHDBD
(1 of 2 women to do so).
Unprecedented. I am so proud🥹
I got to ask Adam Copeland, Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, Christian Cage, Swerve Strickland, Kris Statlander, Katsuyori Shibata, Orange Cassidy, and Tony Khan questions tonight at the
#WrestleDream
media scrum.
I’m cold, I’m tired, but I am blissfully happy. So, so thankful 🥹🫶🏾
Some of y’all are more upset with Mercedes for signing with a company that paid her what she’s worth than you are at the company that wasn’t willing to spend the cash to get her back.
I saw a lot of “Sasha come home 🥹” but not a lot of “Pay her what she deserves!”
Hmm 🤔🥴
There’s still an expectation that because AEW had the audacity to disrupt the monopoly that there’s a set of rules they have to play by where they accept any & all external vitriol as a consequence of existing.
People really have more of a problem with that footage coming out than they did when the other company spent their biggest weekend of the year talking about aew nonstop
Guaranteed money is a bad thing for a profession that was not only previously monopolized but drastically underpaid across the board in comparison to other sports (+ no off-season)?
Punk said he was sold on AEW being an alternative which is good for the business and good for the boys.
He then said, "Guaranteed money almost kind of ruined pro wrestling. If you had to get paid off the house, things would be drastically different."
“Swerve I heard you on Saturday talking about your daughter and it sounds to me that she, much like all of these people in Winnipeg, is in need of a FATHER!”
For the fiftyleventh time, Wembley is not the place for Omega/Ospreay III.
1. It’s too soon.
2. Their matches require significant planning ahead. Kenny just did a Vikingo match & Blood & Guts. Ospreay is doing a grueling G1 rn.
3. This is a NJPW story. End it at WK18.
AEW/ROH made a 3-hour timeline video of the Athena/Billie Starkz story. You’d be hard pressed to find a wrestling storyline this year, regardless of gender, that has had this kind of depth & quality.
Kudos to all involved. So excited for
#ROHFinalBattle
💪🏾
This story is so intriguing because Swerve kept pushing & taunting Hangman until he became all of the traits that Swerve originally said he lacked. Now Hangman’s finally snapped and Swerve can’t undo the monster he created.
AEW completely redefined TV wrestling for me. Can’t believe we’ve been getting AT MINIMUM two 4+ star matches every week this year so far. I love it here 🤩
The way that AEW fans are not allowed to be excited about new signings, milestones, a kickass run of PPVs, or just about anything is so peculiar to me. Idk why it baffles & bothers y’all that one person or promotion doesn’t own professional wrestling. That’s not healthy 😕
I know *that side* of wrestling Twitter doesn’t acknowledge the existence of other wrestling promotions but if they did, they’d know it’s the anniversary of Jay’s last match in ROH. The usage of “Dem Boyz” probably wasn’t intentional but it definitely can be read as tone deaf.
As someone who was at All In London, strictly a presence perspective, this is NOT the same Jack Perry we saw the last time he was in AEW and I mean that in the best way possible.
#njriot
I think it’s unfair to say that Tony Khan is being dramatic when:
- WWE stopped popular live event venues from running AEW shows
- They tried to get contracted AEW talent to leave & come back
- AEW has the same 4 PPVs a year and WWE STILL counter-programs them 🤷🏾♀️
If Hangman/Swerve are going to “fight forever”, they have to take breaks from each other & evolve on their own to make it more impactful when they eventually find their way back to each other. Glad their story is a fan favorite but Hangman should not appear at Dynasty tonight.
Compared to Tanahashi and Nakamura, Shibata was the one who was least likely on paper to be a crossover star in the West. The fact that he’s managed to do it by simply being The Wrestler is so awesome. I’m so happy for him and I’m happy that TK values him like the legend he is.
Shibata said he’s ready to make a commitment to Tony Khan and ROH/AEW. It means so much to me to see him get a second chance here in the United States.
#AEW
Last night during the Hangman/Swerve match was so funny because some of the men were like “Ehh maybe this is too much gore” and women were like “YES KING DRINK HIS BLOOD, MORE VIOLENCE PLS 😍🥰” 😂💀
