Children’s book illustrator and author. What the Ladybird Heard and other Julia Donaldson books. Our new book, The Tooth Fairy and the Crocodile is out in June
Sheffield Council have decided that after listening to residents moaning on and on about saving War Memorial trees, they have listened enough. 41 war memorial trees are going to be cut down just, like the men they represent.

My daughter said they could smell the smoke in school today and an elderly neighbour was having breathing problems. Makes a mockery of the Clean Air Zone in Sheffield.

🌳 GIVEAWAY 🌳
With the sad news of the Sycamore Gap in the news, I thought I’d give away a copy of my new book Adoette which features the loss of a favourite tree. RT to win.
Ends 6/11/23
I was thrilled to meet
@ChrisGPackham
and I forced a copy of Adoette on him as he gets a dedication in the back for all his support during the Sheffield tree protests. As he said during his talk, every tree counts. 💚🌳💚

Lovely that Sheffield has been named the UK’s greenest city, but let’s give credit where it’s due. We had a very generous benefactor; business man, councillor and Lord Mayor, John George Graves. He gave Sheffield…
These are the trees Sheffield Council want to fell with the help of Amey and South Yorks Police. You can see why residents are trying so hard to save them.

What I hear as a parent of a Yr 11 child when she comes home from school, is sad stores of eating disorders, self harm, anxiety and tragically this week, suicide. The idea that they can carry on as normal after this completely abnormal year is actually a bit cruel.
Can’t stop thinking about the person hit by our train. It was interesting witnessing passenger’s reactions. Two young men were most annoyed and damning. No empathy at all. I’d guess the person who died was a young man too. There’s something in that I feel. Not good. 😔 RIP
I’m in London with my children who don’t want to be seen with me! I have to walk 10 paces behind at all times and I’m not allowed to take any photos of them. 😀

Tree Huggers have a bad name in Sheffield. Branded a minority of undemocratic vigilantes who need to get a life. Here’s a quote from one which I liked.

Are there any charities, schools or libraries in Sheffield who would like some books? I have loads and I’d like to give some away to good causes.

To celebrate our city trees, particularly Sheffield’s, I thought I’d give away a copy of Adoette and a couple of drawings I did on stage at Barnes Lit Festival.
Follow & RT to win. I’ll choose a winner on 3/7/23 💚🌳💚
Hillsborough Bookshop window has been redone. It was difficult to get a good photo in the sunshine. Repainted onto acetate. 4 days work. Might never do another! 😩👍😉
This is a really good example of how the picture book process works. Each party has to respect the other’s process.

I was delighted to be asked to take part in the BBC documentary about

’s life and work. It’s a lovely programme, packed with special guests. Repeated on BBC2 Xmas Day and on the iPlayer. (Me and Helena! 😆)
With no power, and no way to get to our accommodation, car or belongings, we took shelter in Barter Books. They were open and had lit the fires. Other people had come to seek refuge too. We were rescued by some kind folk who managed to get us back to where we should have been. ❤️
Sheffield City centre has very few mature trees. Even fewer today, as Sheffield Council removed 4 healthy trees on Sunday morning at 6am as part of ‘improvements’ to the area.

It seems South Yorks Police arrested a lady today at a tree protest for blowing a small plastic trumpet. Glad the police are cracking down on these sorts of crimes.

Amazing to see so many people from all over the country tweeting about Sheffield’s trees! Our council continually tell us that only a small minority care about trees. If you care, do tweet and include

I’ve just had to ask someone on Instagram to credit the illustrators of Julia Donaldson’s books, especially when creating projects for children based on the pictures!! It’s my pet hate. Sorry. I was very polite. 😖
Show your mum some ladybird love! This is the short Twitter version. You can see the full video over on Insta or FB. I will also try to get them up on YouTube. Let's see those ladybirds!

I very rarely get actual letters from children anymore, so when one arrives all the way from India, it’s a special thing! From a 3 yr old in Mumbai asking me to visit, so they can take me to the play area! 🥰
How many men does it take to cut down a tree in Sheffield? (Lots). I wonder if that money could have been spent fixing the pavement around the tree? Seems the easier option 🤔

Just found this. When I was 15, I won an art competition in You Magazine. I came all the way to Bedford Square in London with my little sister, on our own, to collect my prize from Janice Long. 🏆
One of the good things to come from this year, is making dog walking friends. We see them every day, and they’ve kept us going through this tricky year. Here’s the Xmas card I made for them 🐶
My new book Adoette, inspired by the Sheffield tree campaign, is available to pre-order. Every little order helps! 💚🌳

Its so heartening to hear millionaires moaning that if they have to pay more tax they will leave the country. Not threatening to leave if they see another homeless person on the street, or hear about another child who’s going hungry. Lovely.

As part of ‘improvements’ to Sheffield city centre, these 4 mature plane trees are being chopped down. I genuinely don’t understand how this is an improvement!
