Using AI to write production code is similar to outsourcing. You are no longer doing the fun stuff: designing and writing high quality code. Instead you: Review bad code N times to make it somewhat acceptable, panic fix bugs in production, maintain ever growing messy code base.

My experience with Cursor. "Write this code for me." Lookin good bro! Look at all this time saved! Run it. Wait... doesn't work. Wrong in subtle ways. Spend more time debugging than if I wrote the code. Who likes debugging more than writing?

Some users claim to have been banned while trying to give feedback about the editor. I'm sorry for them, it shouldn't have happened. But they should've waited If you see someone really angry about something IRL you don't go to them to complain about an unrelated thing. Same here

It's hard to filter between them all. On internet spaces, just as you would do in real life. Read the room. If people are angry/nervous don't enter the conversation to add nothing or to complain about unrelated things. Because there's a good chance you'll end up hurt (or banned)

All my Support to @godotengine and their Community Manager. I've had to fight against nazis (and TERFs too) in my mentions with @aceCourtBot , it is not a pleasant experience The CM will have unfairly banned people, it's normal, when you have so many mentions it's really hard

I'll regret this, but: my take on the #godot thing 1. "woke studios use engines" take is obvsly dumb 2. Godot memeing on it is fine 3. Gogot's explicit support of LGBT+ is good. These folks are threatened in most parts of the world, they do need every bit of support they can get

if your response to seeing a rainbow emoji is "ew politics" you probably arent very interested in an inclusive environment and godot made the right decision to remove you Financially backing a project doesn't entitle you to bigotry

Recently a video claimed that modern pixel artists are misguided - mimicking sprites as they appear on modern screens, instead of how pixel artists from the 80s and 90s “intended” them to look on hazy CRT televisions. Not exactly. Let’s discuss. A thread 1/🧵

CRTs are not "how the games were intended to be experienced" any more than cassette tape is "how 80s music was intended to be experienced". no one consciously chose it because they liked it, it was just what we had. what are we doing here

how you gonna render an object without keeping track of where it is?

The game keeps track of the location of every single object in Starfield (so you can theoretically move every single sandwich to a single room). This leaves little room for 60fps.

A gameplay programmer at Insomniac told me once that the biggest perceived improvement to game AI over his career was having NPCs shout what they were going to do before doing it.

The before is 21.7 ms per frame, after is 17.5 ms per frame - that's an overhead of 4.2 per frame. Again, a lot.

DRM arguments aside, 10% is _A LOT_ when it comes to performance.

People don't know how to make benchmarks properly. "DENUVO IS A CANCER" Welcome to the reality where software vendors have to protect their properties and the performance impact is less than 10%.
