We also show that gathering contact data during two days in a population is sufficient to generate realistic synthetic contact sequences between individuals in that population on longer timescales. 6/6

While it does not strongly affect transmission routes between classes in the school, preserving this feature has a clear impact on the infection pathways between individual students. 5/6

The synthetic contact networks are optimised to inherit properties from the base data, such as: -mixing rates within and between classes, -varying activity levels during the day, -balance between casual encounters and repeated contacts over different days due to friendships. 3/6

This is well below time scales needed when modelling an outbreak. To generate plausible model inputs, we designed a tool to extend existing contact data measured in schools to any desired timescale. 2/6

Agent-based models of epidemic spread (e.g. COVID-19) rely on high-resolution contact data to determine possible transmission paths. While this kind of data has been measured with sensors, data sets typically cover few days only… 1/6

Preprint alert! We designed an algorithm for synthetic temporal contact networks in schools, and test it out to parametrise an agent based model of COVID-19 spread among school children. https://t.co/4kPOPZvP9l w/ @eli_colosi, @GiulyBassignana, @alainbarrat and @vcolizza ! 🧵⬇️
