Shout out to open ended play. This friend was so proud to show me her creation. I said, “Wow, tell me about what you’ve made!” She proceeded to count using one-to-one correspondence and report, “I have 3 elephants, 4 rinos, 2 zebras and 3 horses!” @TLDSB_EY @monckps

Tomorrow is Indigenous People’s Day! This month we have read We Are Water Protectors, leaned new vocabulary, and retold the story through colouring. We learned about and used the medicine wheel to represent the butterfly life cycle, and discussed Indigenous beadwork.

Our caterpillars have formed chrysalises, and emerged as butterflies! These are Painted Lady butterflies, native to Ontario. @monckps @TLDSB_EY @TLDSB

Recently had the opportunity to attend PD put on by @OneKidsPlace OT team about fine motor development. It was so eye opening! My biggest takeaway was that for kinder kids, it’s not developmentally appropriate to expect them to write with lowercase letters. Of course we teach

The kids have spoken and we will be providing puppets for dramatic play next week. We had this interactive slide on the smart board during play and each person got to vote by contributing a rectangle to build our bar graph. We interpreted the data and are excited for puppets!

As our tomatoes are ripening and we start to eat them, we noticed there were seeds inside! This lead to exploring and learning about the life cycle of a tomato, and some student lead extensions thinking of other life cycles 🍅🦄 @monckps

I had this baby bottle drying rack that wasn’t being used anymore, and decided to use it in an invitation to play. My assistant/sidekick loved filling these carrot orders. @TLDSB_EY

Exploring a non-fiction book about trees and using it to help us find a maple tree. We compared the bark and the fallen leaves.We measured the tree to ensure it was big enough to share some sap with us, and learned about the Indigenous origins of maple syrup production. @monckps

Kindness Ninjas strike again! Students decided to focus this kindness mission on our wonderful lunch helpers. They wrote them notes of thanks and made goodie bags to gift to each of them. We hid in the hall and had so much fun jumping out and surprising them! @monckps

An invitation to explore the sh and ng digraphs as part of our scope and sequence. This group loves creating so we included an opportunity to draw and design their own fish.
