Good luck to 26 yr old cyclist Matt Richardson. It would be sweet, having spent 24 yrs as an Australian, for him to break this record as a Brit! 😀 🇬🇧. #r4today.

India is about to produce another record rice crop, hot on the heels of last year’s record output. Good news? In some ways, yes. But it spells severe problems for other nations like Philippines that cannot compete vs. imported rice prices. #c4news.

Let’s be clear, Prime Minister. After a year of your Government, waiting lists have fallen from 7.4m to 7.2m. At that rate of improvement, it will take over 22 years to clear the backlog. #bbclaurak.

Eight months on and today we are facing the exact scenario I feared - lower hiring, higher prices and stagnant economy. This is on you, Chancellor. đŸ€ŠđŸ» #r4today.

Reeves’ high tax budget and huge wage deals has put BoE in a real bind. The employer NI hike is going to raise prices, cut jobs + lower investment. BoE would normally hike rates if price inflation occurs, but that would hurt business investment even more. Stagflation risk. #wato.

5,454 people arrived in small boats into UK in July. That’s more than double the annual expected number of migrants to be exchanged in Starmer’s new “one in, one out” scheme. #r4today.

Football clubs really are not central to the economy of towns anymore, Lisa Nandy. That just is not true. Most clubs run at small profits if any profit at all. Foreign owners may offshore any profit. Town economic value is way higher. #r4today.

I prefer this metaphor. Test cricket is an artisanal experience, where aficionados go to see the purest form of the craft, whilst the Hundred is like going to the circus - "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls - prepare to be AMAZED!".Each to their own.

Always a lively (ahem!) debate when this time of year comes round. As one person complained, The Hundred is like going to a kebab shop after dining at The Gavroche. A fun analogy, but equally - is there not room for both?.

The UK signed a £480m deal two years ago to pay for additional border patrols and surveillance equipment such as drones and night-vision binoculars. Can we ask the House of Commons Audit Committee to assess the risk that this money is being totally wasted? 🧐 #bbcpm.

Cooper says she won’t give target numbers for her exchange scheme because it will give operational information to the smugglers. No one is asking for that, though - that’s a red herring, Yvette. Just admit that a) you don’t want to fall short of a target and b) it’s tiny. #bbcpm.

“Nobody uses hard soap anymore ,” says UN plastic conference spokesperson. Not true of course - sales are declining but so are other forms of liquid soap too. Hygiene poverty is (shockingly) part of the UK problem. #wato .

Fair play to Yvette Cooper - this new “one in, one out” scheme will at least do something. But if she thinks that the 50% year on year increase in small boat arrivals is due to the lack of a scheme like this, she is sadly deluded. #wato.

Kamala Harris announced yesterday that she will not be running for Governor of California. This opens the way for her to run against Republicans in the 2028 election. But is that really a good idea? #r4today.

Mandatory testing for drivers over 80 years is certainly a good idea. Other than young men, they are the most at risk cohort of accidents per mile. #wato.
