What a tribute to @RailaOdinga ! RIP Jakom, Doyen of Kenya’s modern democratic republic.
Winnie Odinga's tribute to her father Raila: I don't know who I’ll miss more; my dad or my superhero. I'm the luckiest girl in the world.

The days of disregarding reports because government says so are long gone. Licensing =/= traceability. @Beatrice_Annan1 can you explain to Ghanaians how GoldBod ensures these licensed buyers don’t buy from galamsey mines? Does GoldBod know which mines they buy from?
Disregard any propaganda that Goldbod buys gold from illegal miners. Goldbod deals with only license buyers. Thank you.

This is frankly unacceptable. We need “further and better particulars.” What “circumstances beyond your control” are you referring to?!
🚨 The reconvening of #GhParliament for the third meeting of the first session will not come off next Tuesday, according to House Speaker Bagbin citing circumstances beyond his control. A new date will be communicated in due course after Parliament has sorted out the issues.

I don’t want “proud of you” o. I want okay “we are standing united in this fight” Dedicate 2-3 tweets a day to educating people on the harmful effects of galamsey. We also need plans on how to reach these communities to educate and empower people in this fight against Galamsey.

And neither the @NDCGhana nor @nppghanahq has gone after the galamsey financiers. Mr. AG, what happened to the prosecution of Wontumi??!
In a country with weak policy accountability, all you see is the same measures being repeated under different names to solve the same problems over and over again. That shows up in almost everything, including the fight against galamsey. Which of the measures being used by the

If Nkrumah came back, this generation would betray him. He was lucky to be born at a time when the people cherished their liberty and risked their lives for it. Indeed, time and circumstances make heroes.

The definition of galamsey has long moved beyond whether someone holds a license or not. On that basis, arguments about which government has issued more or fewer licenses are meaningless. The party in power has the responsibility to confront the menace directly. The growing body

“Yet even when African leaders talk about power, they talk about generation capacity, not reliability. It’s hard to take our industrialization dreams seriously when 95% of the continent’s utilities are insolvent.”

This is such a brilliant interview and @benkoku ‘s point is so crucial. The law is there for all to read. Law should not be some set of mysterious concepts non lawyers cannot understand. Mysterious, difficult to understand laws undermine the rule of law!
This is very embarrassing. He knows nothing about diplomacy. He thinks diplomacy is akin to the propaganda he used to do while in opposition. He is still struggling to transition from the lies he peddled to the new position he occupies as Foreign Affairs Minister. Bernard Avle

Days after @fourthestategh exposed how an NDC aligned group forcefully took over a licensed mine in Prestea Huni-Valley with National Security support, a party official has confirmed the involvement of the Member of Parliament for the area. Read more:

Responsible mining won’t be learned on a plane to Australia. It must be taught in Ghana, where the damage is happening. Cost-effective: Flying experts in is cheaper and more scalable than sending hundreds of miners abroad. Inclusive: More miners can be trained at once in Ghana,

Yep. True under Akuffo-Addo and true under @JDMahama
Galamsey is Ghana's drug trade. It is to Ghana what cocaine is to Colombia. There are cartels involved. These cartels have politicians, chiefs and security personnel involved. Our government is complicit and would not do anything about it. @JDMahama bears ultimate responsibility.

Btw we will never go the Nepal way because kwa ground most of us are looking for proximity to the ruling class and don't really care about a working system but would want the system to be in one's favour

Mr. President, your "fight" against illegal mining is very underwhelming. Like the other sectors, if you do well, we'll see it.

You could be talking about Ghana! We elevate money above every virtue and it is the church, which should be a bastion of morality which promotes this attitude. Pharisees who don’t read their bibles! How would they know that “the love of money is the root of all evil”!
Our obsession with money is why many don't question a person’s source of wealth. So long as they have money, that's all that matters. No industries built, no track record of successful businesses, just “Ni God Manze” and Abracadabra. 1+1 is never 2. No workings, no evidence.
