This is the reality for patients post ITU. The right nutritional support at the right time is essential. Don’t stop it too soon. Dietitians are vital. @christisam10 @Margare18631371 @keeganRD @lyndzik29 @LeaRus81 @AbbieMcsherry @.

I've said here that in post-ICU COVID survivors, I worry more about functional deficits & skeletal muscle loss than I do pulmonary fibrosis. This is more compelling than 100 refs re post-ICU syndrome. Most of our patients don't start from this baseline.

THIS is why we need dietitians involved in the patients recovery. In day where I’ve battled all day on various national working groups to shout about the need for adequate dietetic staffing levels ! A protocol won’t address this! @BDACriticalCare.

It’s imp to highlight those COVID-19 inpatients who are struggling with lack of appetite, poor intake & weight loss ASAP Early nutritional support will help prevent malnutrition, support rehab & aid quicker recovery. @UHMonklands @NHSLDietetics @christisam10.

New Department of Health guidelines on malnutrition screening in acute hospitals are important for COVID-19 patients where 71% experience loss of taste and 79% lack of appetite. We need to keep these patients nutritionally well.
