Contrary to much scholarly opinion, he was also a generous mentor to many poets who were women. I discussed this topic briefly for @LightPoetryMag about a decade ago in an essay about the history of women in light verse.

@amjuster I wrote this book for younger readers about him, many years ago now. Researching it was very interesting. He was quite a guy.

@alfred_nicol 's collection is so good the proofreader was moved to write a note praising the most striking aspects of the poems, with praise like "perfect" "masterly Shakespearean sonnet" "touching" "excellent" "heartbreaking" and my favorite comment: "out-Herricks Herrick"
