For a lot of vaccines, two doses are required to establish what is called a “memory” response. This ensures that your immune system has at least one opportunity to recall the virus that it has learnt to recognize, thereby driving home the lesson. (6/6).

Delaying the second dose (UK, Denmark and some other countries are already doing this): .There seems to be high efficacy after the first shot for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, but none of the trials evaluates how long that efficacy would last. (5/6).

Moderna Phase 2 clinical trials showed that half dose (50mcg) did seem to generate a promising immune response comparable to the full dose (100 mcg). However, that doesn’t always translate to vaccine efficacy. (3/6).
