With it being near impossible for foreign journos to report from Gaza, and local journos under bombardment, it's been difficult to cover this conflict. Still, media orgs have published imp investigations that shed light on how Israel has been conducting this war. A thread:

We uncovered a federal effort that disproportionately prosecuted migrants from Muslim countries at the border. The migrants, like Afghan journalists/activists, were jailed for months. DOJ stopped after our inquiry. “Why is it just us in detention?” https://t.co/oMulmGr7CS

Immigrants from Muslim-majority countries are a tiny percentage of border crossers. But in one Texas judicial district, they made up more than half of those prosecuted under an obscure law.

"NPR stands for freedom of speech and holding the powerful accountable. It is unacceptable for Twitter to label us this way. A vigorous, vibrant free press is essential to the health of our democracy."

NPR operates independently of the U.S. government. NPR has asked Twitter to remove the label, calling it "unacceptable." But Twitter CEO Elon Musk says it "seems accurate."

For my last @NPR story from South Asia, I camped on a riverbank in northern Bangladesh, in a village 2 hours' boat ride from the nearest road -- and found 100% awareness of climate change, and a flood warning system that could be the envy of the West.

The world's worst cyclones hit Bangladesh. Floods are devastating. Yet death tolls are falling. The country's climate disaster strategies offer lessons for all coastal communities.

These are just a few of the brilliant people that did or still do put this show on everyday. Like @RachelMartin said...anything we've done that "makes you think or feel something - all of that happened because of the incredible journalists who we work with on this show."

Oh and @Harry_Styles...you might've heard of him? The excellent @miltonguevarajr produced this one with @PhilHarrellNPR

The pop star has spent a life on the go, so the pandemic offered him a rare chance for reflection, to separate the person from the pop star. Also, of course, to record a new album.

And then there's this interview that GRACIE AWARD WINNING @lillyevy produced. "It shouldn't be underestimated, the power of communication, of speaking things out in a respectful way. And that's what I try to do."

Plus I discussed the terrible things being done to Hummus with @realmoamer while also discussing his new show that brought the Palestinian American experience to the television screen. @PhilHarrellNPR is the genius that worked with me on this.

Mohammed Amer has spoken about his family's experience as Palestinian refugees in standup comedy. He spent nearly a decade turning it into a television series, which is arriving on Netflix this week.

And from DC an @NPR team helped us bring voices to our air from inside Iran as mass demonstrations over choice, freedom and police brutality grew. The people who spoke to us did it knowing they were taking a huge risk.

Working around Iran's internet blackouts, young protesters send voice memos explaining why they're participating in anti-government protests and how they're dealing with the deadly crackdowns.

Then I went to Tunisia with the incredibly talented @Taylorhaney He helped me put together this piece on the fate of democracy as young people who saw no future got on boats to sneak into Europe. 📷by Claire Harbage edited by @olivia_hampton

Just before Roe V Wade was overturned I spent the day at a reproductive care clinic in Arizona with the incomparable @DannyHajek. The clinic was preparing for the SCOTUS decision while continuing to provide care.

Clinics brace for a Supreme Court decision overturning Roe V Wade. Desert Star Family Planning is in Arizona, where abortion could be banned and criminalized if federal protections are reversed.

Today Vova is in Poland. He's walking again. Sometimes he even runs. But he wants to go home. He wants this war to be over.

I spent a month in Ukraine with the absolutely brilliant @ArezouRezvani. We will never forget meeting 13-year-old Vova in a hospital bed in Kyiv. He was shot seven times and his father and cousin were killed trying to escape Russian bombardment.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, doctors have been treating kids for shrapnel, bullet wounds and mine blast injuries. We visit Ukraine's largest children's hospital to see the war's effects on children.

For a living I get to listen, ask questions and bear witness. The stories submitted for this award have my voice but everything I do is with a team of incredible people @MorningEdition (including @lillyevy) led by @erikaaaguilar. This 🧵will share some of that work.
Congratulations to two members of the @MorningEdition @UpFirst team on their Gracie Awards! Leila Fadel won in the best host category, while Lilly Quiroz won for best producer. Bravo! @LeilaFadel @LillyQuiroz #TheGracies
