Good news! I finished my reference notes for my Cyber War Is Boring talk at @BSidesDublin. It's intended to be a reference doc as it's 19,958 words, but it covers my thinking and more background than I had time to go into! Enjoy 😁

Cyber still isn’t ✨ magic ✨, it is still limited, it still takes a lot of effort and investment and there are still other weapons available and these weapons can be MUCH more effective. But I left...

Like Irish sovereign airspace is huge to start, but we also have the Shanwick OCA and it quite literally goes HALF WAY ACROSS THE ATLANTIC. You need a radar that sees over 500 nautical miles to even begin to consider thinking about covering it.

Like a useful radar for the kind of scale of space that we need to monitor is like an AN/SPY1 radar and like. That's a 50 year old radar design and it costs hundreds of millions of dollars and is one of the most expensive parts of an American Destroyer. .

Ok. I know we live in a different universe to the rest of the world but. In what third universe do the Gov think you can get 400 net personnel and a mighty radar for 55 million quid?! Not to mention also getting new APC'S, ships and aircraft?!.

Another year another @bsidesbelfast and after a long hiatus, it has lost none of its charm and is still put on by wonderful people who foster a magical community!. As always it's great to help with and teach Lockpicking, catch up with friends and watch great talks in a great city.

A rare twitter post, while on my way to @bsidesbelfast. The control electronics aboard my train have popped open and I'm up to no mischief 😇. One of the panels is labelled TRAIN COMP. and there's a Driver's panel along with station settings . Dare I poke this particular bear?

We are donating things we've already bought, for a war that thankfully never came and we don't need. We should be donating them to save our freedoms and give them to our allies in Ukraine so that they can live in a society they choose rather than the one Russia imposes.

M109 for XM1299, Warrior for Ajax! The list goes on and on! . Even the US is getting rid of whole piles of their M4 stock for the XM5! And why? Because they want to be ahead in the next war and that means they need the system the will work for THAT war, not this one.

Not just that! Not only are we investing by giving these systems to Ukraine, we are giving them the junk we needed for the last war and the one Russia is still fighting . The F-16 being replaced by the F-35, Leopard 2 and Le Clerc for MGCS, Chally 2 for Chally 3, Marder for Puma.

Someone in power started listening to what I've said for years. Ukraine is a fight for European Security. These are our brothers, sisters and LGBTQA+ family fighting and dying for OUR freedoms. And it's not losing money. It's INVESTING in Europe Security

And not just in the sense of how important it is for science, technology and manufacturing, but also because it came out of designing a fair measurement system after the French Revolution, the motto is just magical;. For All Times, For All Peoples.

It's almost like "narrow generation margins" without a renewable baseload is a problematic grid architecture. If only there was some kind of giant kettle technology that could harness the U239 that's spread over 25% of the island.

I know Spotify Wrapped is surveillance capitalism at its finest and dressed up as a fun thing but I used to reset iTunes metadata on track listens every year to see what was popular year over year and keep track of past years loves. This is all very me. I was a fun kid! I know!.
