Yes, a teacher making a stupid decision is proof-positive that banning cell phones in classrooms/schools is ableist. Good lord people.
Disabled kids’ insulin pumps and glucose meters are connected to their smartphones. A teacher mistook the student’s insulin pump for a cell phone and ripped it out. This isn’t about providing disabled kids with anything. But policies that are ableist and endanger their health.

I know the trend right now is to think of teachers as unempathetic rules-lawyers and authoritarians, but if a disabled student needs to use an electronic device to communicate it would be in an IEP and would very obviously be exempted from bans. Jesus, would you all get a grip?.
Disabled kids are being left out of the conversation about banning cell phones in classrooms. Smartphones and tablets aid kids with varying disabilities and have made education more accessible.
