In DT we focused on which shape column would be the strongest. We created a selection of columns then tested them to see which one was the sturdiest. Amazing maths skills with measuring and recall of 3D shape names, folding skills, making predictions and team work.

In English, our writing focus is explanation texts. We are using the digestive system as our theme to write about in our sentence stacking sessions but first we needed to understand what happens and so took part in a practical demonstration covering the key parts of the process.

In History today, we learnt that the Romans were very religious and that religion was a large part of their daily lives worshipping many deities. The class chose gods they wanted to research, used books, class displays and the internet to find out more.

Year 4 made a start on their new RE topic reflecting on the question: What is the most significant part of the Nativity story for Christians today? Today we looked at various symbols thinking about what they represent, where we see them and how they make us feel.

Inspired by our focus on Black History Month, in particular the historical figure we researched, Wangari Maathai the social and environmental activist, a member of our class chose his new reading book linked to our learning. Enjoy reading for pleasure and learning more.

Year 4 are celebrating ‘Black History Month’ and today we spent time learning about a Kenyan social and environmental activist called Wangari Maathai. We watched a short video about her life, discussed how she had stood firm in power and pride and recorded key facts about her.

After yesterday’s initial swimming assessment, the lessons today focused in confidence in the water, floating, the start of a formal swim stroke and for some the fine tuning of their stroke. So many smiley faces, laughter and super hard work. Well done Year 4.
