A great morning yesterday, discussing how we improve services for people with #LearningDisabilities. Very important discussions for #LearningDisabilityWeek2023 @SomersetFT
Fantastic Workshop today on LD and Autism and how we improve the service we provide and pull together to give person centred care for our patients. A lot of rich conversations and key take aways from case study that was shared. Proud to represent acute nurses in @SomersetFT

#WorldDownSyndromeDay2023 let’s hope those MPs listen to Tommy and begin to implement meaningful change
Talking to MPs about improving #healthcare for ppl w Down syndrome in @HouseofLords2 today #WDSD2023 w @NDSPolicyGroup @LiamFox Diagnostic overshadowing is a real problem for us, when health care staff blame Down syndrome and don't look at our symptoms. Then things go wrong.

Our wonderful learning disabilities volunteer Lily is helping colleagues and patients to learn more about sign language, through 'word of the week' videos that share common and hospital-related phrases! See what Lily has been up to: https://t.co/zc29SryBjS

Interesting debate, would like to hear the thoughts of others @SomersetFT @Dementia_D_Team @PhillipsJackee @jane_yeandle @Jaynesc68 @rcni @NurseStandard
Why is the term 'challenging behaviour' so offensive for some? Popularised in the 1990s, the term was not intended as a label, but some #learningdisability healthcare advocates deem it an offensive diagnostic stamp, argues @JonathanBeebee: https://t.co/InFDYACWwI

V interesting. Families of people we support may have been ‘Mum’/‘Dad’ for years, esp if their loved one doesn’t communicate verbally. An HCP wouldn’t call a sibling ‘Brother’ as their name. Simple courtesy to find out what people would like to be called @SomersetFT #ldnurse #LD
My name is not "Mum". Had my first experience with this today with a health professional and it felt dehumanising. Professionals, plase use the parent/carer's actual name #SEND #disability #autism #NHS #SLT
