I would believe in their authenticity if they were actually effective. And yet, KYC hasn’t stopped money laundering but has definitely enabled it through identity theft and fraud. All the while driving up compliance costs and keeping competitors out. We should stop pretending.
Once you understand:. Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know-Your-Customer (KYC) are misnomers. They are in fact, *licensing* schemes where rich, powerful and systemically important banks can money-launder with impunity, while preventing competition from smaller firms.
