I am that close to scream when I watched the answer live. When did our government need to do fact checking for China? Our government clearly underestimated the national security threat from China and we are at risk to give it away for modest economic gains.
1/ 🧵Not the best appearance on the question tabled by Sir Julian Lewis MP (Con), but the answer from the Minister was shocking. Is the Government now content being what seems to be a proposal to become the fact-checking machine for the proposed Chinese embassy?

The skills of Labour ministers on throwing away responsibility are at a new low: they tried to blame the Deputy, ignoring the fact that they are dealing with a powerful rival. Should the National Security Advisor not involved, it will be a lack of diligence, which is equally bad.

Thanks very much for Paul to support our cause. As he said, this government underestimate the security threat from China. We should push the government to put China onto the enhanced tier of Foreign Influence Registration Scheme, and stop the Chinese embassy plan. #FIRS
As discussed at our London Conference, government isn't doing enough to counter the Chinese threat. After failing to address alleged spying, we must take a stand by blocking the new giant embassy which'll compromise national security & safety of exiles & Hong Kongers in the UK.

Labour needs to come clean on the Westminster Spy case which fell apart. Then, its policy strategy on China must change, beginning with placing #China onto the Enhanced Tier of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme, just as what the scheme had always been designed for.
Our researcher got stuck at the airport and caught up with news reports and Party Conferences discussions on the Westminster spy case, and the attack on #Labour. He scribbled a 5-point plan from the Lib Dems policy Labour can join as determination against #China's assertions.

Confucius Institutes are only one malign influence at the University of Leeds. The breadth & depth of CCP's operations e.g. orchestrating enticing 'gains', are only recently grasped by security services in Europe. Enhanced tier FIRS on #China will help strengthen our democracy.
