6/ I remain committed to my platform of empowering student members to take the fight to the populist right, securing the funding for a rolling travel fund, and delivering new Labour clubs on campuses across our regions and nations.

5/ I will again be seeking your support for the position of Chair of Labour Students.

4/ The Party has a duty of transparency to young members. They must now provide an explanation of how this was allowed to happen, and what steps are being taken to prevent similar problems from occurring in future.

3/ However, I’m immensely disappointed that members’ concerns were ignored until after the point at which this could have been prevented. Putting yourself forward for election is already a daunting process, and this has been an unnecessary and preventable cause of distress.

2/ The membership freeze date for parliamentary selections was incorrectly applied, instead of the later date which should be used for internal elections. In the interests of ensuring an open, democratic process, I welcome the decision to reissue ballots.

1/ Statement on the Labour Students Elections: Yesterday, I was informed that the ballots stage of the Labour Students elections is being re-run. This is because of an administrative error in the initial process which prevented members who were entitled to vote from taking part.

Throughout the (first) election, we heard time and time again from young members that they want to see improved transparency and inclusivity within the youth and student wings. We are asking members to let us know how this can be improved: https://t.co/bOBycNFBrW

We welcome the announcement of this review and look forward to continue working with the government to lead the fight against antisemitism in schools.
