Join us for LSSU’s Aquatic Ecology and Fisheries Camp to learn basic fish and aquatic invertebrate identification, participate in hands-on lab experiments, and use sampling techniques and equipment used widely in the fisheries field! Overnight and commuter options available!

Students from Bay City Academy visited CFRE to learn about all things fish and water! The students participated in an Atlantic Salmon dissection, studied zooplankton under the microscope, and learned about fish culture during a hatchery tour.

Learn about the wonders of bird migration through a book reading & fun bird puppet craft at CFRE at 10:30am & 12:30pm on March 2nd! This event is best suited for ages 4-9, but anyone is welcome to attend. We can't wait to see you this weekend!

Join us February 17th between 10a- 2pm for some donuts & birdwatching fun!.There will be birding opportunities & fun bird ID challenges. All are welcome! Binoculars & guides will be provided so all can participate. We hope to see you there!

Senior education students Beth Dyer, Kaitlyn Edington, and Hope Swenor planned and led the weekend story and craft time at CFRE. Kids and their parents couldn’t say enough great things about the event!

Research Technician Cameron Leitz is busy processing invasive New Zealand mudsnail samples from the Au Sable, Boardman, Manistee, and Pere Marquette rivers in northern lower Michigan. Samples contain caddisflies, stoneflies, and mayflies, amongst native and the invasive snails.

CFRE’s new, grant funded $1+ million lab equipment was recently installed, greatly expanding the capabilities of our water analysis lab. It will provide experiences to LSSU students and support community research at no cost to LSSU. @LifeatLSSU

CFRE and Algoma University lead the International Consortium on Oil Research for Our Waters of the North, which was awarded $3.87 million under Canada’s Multi Partner Research Initiative to study fate, detection/monitoring, and ecological effects of oil in freshwater ecosystems.
