Yesterday, Year 5 completed some of their own watercolour poppy artwork. I was absolutely blown away by the beautiful pictures they produced with many children reflecting on how proud they were of their pictures! Well done Year 5 crew- what a busy and lovely week we have had!

A BIG thank you to all of the children who entered our Remembrance Art Competition from both our Hewish and West Wick sites. We were blown away by the creativity of the different pieces using a wide range of different mediums. Here are some photos to capture the beautiful pieces!

In History, we did a local study on the Blitz in Weston. We looked at primary sources such as photographs and secondary sources from Weston museum. In Geography, we answered the fieldwork question, ‘Why were bombs dropped in certain places?’ We concluded it was for it the impact!

We have taken part in lots of different activities for Remembrance week. In our English lessons, we have recited ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae and we have written diary entries from the perspective of a World War 1 soldiers who played football on Christmas Day in 1914 ⚽️

Today, we started our new English unit on ‘The Crown’ by Emily Kapff. Prior to reading the story, the children were tasked with creating beautiful crowns made from natural resources. We compared them to a crown made from rubbish & reflected on the powerful message from the story!

There was a real ‘buzz’ in the room in PSHE as our Year 5s were tasked to find similarities and differences between each other. We read the story ‘The girls’ by Lauren Ace and reflected on how everyone is different and similar in different ways and that should be celebrated.

This morning, we have been applying our money knowledge at St Anne’s toy shop! The children were tasked with finding change, when buying multiple items, which meant they had multiple subtrahends! We looked at repeated subtraction and also the adding first method to help us! 🧸🛍️

The Busy Bees enjoyed exploring paint, chalk, felt tip pens and wax crayons. We talked about how the different medium felt in our hands and which we enjoyed using the most. Paint was the winner! @StAnnes_EHS @LPStAnnes @HTelfordStAnnes

This afternoon, the children really enjoyed putting the skills we have learnt in our agility and coordination lessons into practise with a game of ‘end ball.’ Great movement and changes of direction were observed in all games! 🏐

We loved responding in role when considering the debate around car use and climate change. The children were given a character description, from a busy mum of two to an environmental scientist, and they had to come up with ways to help the environment whilst supporting busy life!

We have been inspired by England Rugby’s World Cup win over the weekend and have focused on our passing during our PE lesson today. We spoke about effective passing and passing backwards to be able to more forwards! These guys worked brilliantly together with great communication!

This afternoon, we looked at the question ‘Why do we need to be more sustainable?’ from the perspective of clothing. We looked at where our clothes had been made, discussed our carbon footprint and thought about how it impacts the environment. We discussed what we can do to help♻️

In our English writing lessons, we have been focusing on the beautiful book, ‘The Giant and The Sea’ by Trent Jamieson and Rovina Cai. We have been unpicking the important messages in the book and learning about dialogue. We wrote our own dialogue and performed it to others 🌎🌊

We have been learning about traditional South and West African music. We have learnt how to sing and play the call and response song ‘Shosholoza’ which is traditionally sung by the Bantu people on their way to work in the mines. We have learnt chords to add to our music🎶
