Was so glad to see the arguments of Mastery and Drift highlighted in this article!
Great stuff from @jialynnyang on what’s ailing the Democrats, with lots of sharp insights from @LGeismer, @daschloz, and others. “These kinds of Democrats fear mass participation. That’s what they’re afraid of. Instead, you tweak the system.” - Geismer https://t.co/A6VzhWImeM

In the aftermath of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, CMC History Professor Lily Geismer’s research interests seem both perfectly timed and astutely relevant.

My latest piece for @thenation on Clinton and the DLC’s problematic legacy for the Democratic Party
It’s time for Democrats to throw off the dead hand of Clintonism! So argues @LGeismer in this excavation of the enduring influence of Clinton-era politics on today’s Dem Party. If you want to understand why they’re flailing so badly, this explains a lot. https://t.co/fkpiFEjj57

More than 20 years after Bill Clinton left office, Democrats remain in the grips of his New Democrat politics. That’s a serious problem.

Bill Clinton may have been out of office for nearly a quarter century, but the zombie politics of his presidency continue to dominate the Democratic Party. As @LGeismer writes, this explains a lot of the fecklessness we’re seeing now. https://t.co/fkpiFEjj57

Excited about this. Although there's nothing specifically Liberal about many of these historical processes that have hollowed out American democracy. But one must restrict the research agenda one way or another. Maybe this is a fruitful way of doing that.
