Today, the LAPD partnered with the Los Angeles Police Museum to host the Legacy Luncheon, an event that honors the women who shaped this Department, as well as the women who carry the legacy to this day.

Over the last 113 years, many courageous women overcame discrimination & carved a place alongside their male partners in this Dept. With the support of @LAPoliceFdtn & @LA_PoliceMuseum, we celebrated these legends. I’m grateful for their spirit to never give up. @LAWPOA_LAPD

Roscoe “Rocky” Washington joined the #LAPD in 1925. In 1940, he became the 1st African American Lieutenant and Watch Commander. He soon gained the reputation as one of the department’s most well respected lieutenants.
