With more conventions announcing cancellations, it's a good time to remember that a lot of artists are going to be missing out on critical income. If you can, please consider tossing the money you would've spent going to con into artist Patreons or online stores!
Overheard a guy talking to his daughter: “You don’t want to be a jack of all trades and master of none.”
I am here to say to hell with that noise. If you love one thing, devote yourself to it. If you can’t decide, explore. Lots of little knowledge is also valuable.
Just remember that when you hear people say, “I don’t like identity politics,” what they mean is, “I’m being forced to acknowledge that not everyone shares my identity and I don’t like it.”
For as long as I can remember, trans people have been welcome in the furry community. They’re now being attacked by the sorry excuses for human beings in our government.
So let’s keep supporting our trans friends in every way, including voting out the backwards, regressive GOP.
Last night, I was at a Christmas party, and this nice gentleman struck up a conversation with me. Asked what I do. I told him. He said he works in the Trump administration. He then says: "I vote Republican, but I'm socially liberal." Let's discuss this for a second.
Ten years ago yesterday (but it was the first Friday in December) I was laid off from my last tech job. That's the last time I stepped into an office for work. Thanks to everyone who has supported my writing over the last ten years! ❤️ you all and I promise you many more stories.
WE HAVE CRAFTED A FURNACE IN YOUR IMAGE IN WHICH TO ROAST THE FLESH OF YOUR DEAD FELLOWS!
AND WE HAVE GIVEN IT EYELASHES SO IT LOOKS LIKE A LADY. THINK OF IT AS RETURNING TO A VERY HOT WOMB. IF THAT HELPS.
I can’t believe that people are being shirty about furries raising money for charity and I sure as heck hope none of my followers contributed to that. My utmost praise and admiration to
@nasfk_
@PIBBLEBITCH
@kind7ed
and
@sailorrooscout
for the work they did.
So sorry to hear of Fred Patten’s passing. He was a huge influence on furry fandom and writing in particular. I always appreciated the energy and enthusiasm which he brought not only to his own projects but to all furry writing.
Flight attendant as I board: Are you feeling grrreat?
Me: I’m feeling good yeah.
FA (to colleague): See he didn’t get it so now it isn’t funny.
Me: ?
FA: Your mask! Like Tony the Tiger?
Me (moving on): Oh, but this is a fox!
FA: Oh!! What does the fox say??!
There was a woman behind me in the habitrail this morning telling everyone coming the other way, “you’re cool!” Furries are the f’ing best, I love this community and I don’t want to go back outside where people are jerks.
If I were in a Sense8 cluster I’d be like “call me if you need help” and the others would say “lol yeah if we want to sit down for six months and write a book, or go to a furry con, thanks so much” and go back to their safecracking martial arts hacking glamorous lives.
Who's behind these rallies? Surprise! Ultra-rich people who don't want the societal reforms that this pandemic has shown we desperately need. (Click through and read the linked article by Will Bunch for link to Tea Party history.)
Hi, I’m a novelist in a movie. I work on my book for years in plush apartments and remote cabins without any other source of income, and when the book’s done I go on a multi-city tour with big cardboard cutouts of me and sign hundreds of books at each stop.
I wore my fox face mask to the farmers market and a guy at one of the stalls we visit regularly said, “Hey, Mister Fox, good to see you again,” and I’m still waggy about that.
Nine years ago, I dedicated Out of Position to four of my friends whose teams had won Super Bowls since I’d met them and said, “My turn?”
Finally, it is.

Just glanced at the cover of an
@UrsulaV
book and thought it said "Return to the world of Clockwork Bob" and now I am convinced that there is a Clockwork Bob even though I read it wrong.
On this Valentine’s Day I just want to thank the wolf and cat who showed me how big love can be if you let it. Happy Valentine’s Day

How to tell you’re in a Kyell Gold novel:
- You’re probably gay or bisexual, and you’re a fox.
- You are good at a sport, but being gay complicates matters.
- It is possible that you will need to talk to someone who has been dead for a long time to figure out your problems.
proposed twitter game: write about your own work as if you're writing one of The Toast's "How to Tell if You're in a ... Novel" series ()
(also: The Toast, dreamy sigh)
A quick reminder: if you're confused about football and can't find your copy of Out of Position, Dev and Lee will happily explain football to you here:
Imagine the lack of empathy you have to have to not only be angry that the government is helping people in need, but to be unable to comprehend how ANYONE could be in favor of helping people in need without benefiting themselves. What sad lumps of coal their hearts must be.
People who have difficult life experiences generally react in one of two ways: (1) “that’s how life is, everyone has to go through it” (often becoming the person who puts others through it); (2) “no one else should have to suffer like I did.”
You can choose empathy. Every time.
I want to thank everyone for all your love and positive response to my post and tweets yesterday. You guys kept me waggy all day. ❤️
I had planned to add this pic to the post and forgot until late in the day, so if you read it early, have a pic! Art by
I'm excited to announce that Dude, Where's My Fox? is now available as an audiobook!
@MalcolmtheRay
did the fantastic narration for it and if you buy it from this link: it helps me out a little more. Hope y'all enjoy it! ❤️🦊 (now with corrected link!)
Furry is a fantastically open, accepting community, and full of the most creative people I’ve ever met. Like, ridiculously talented. Because of furry, my life is full of “glad I did” rather than “wish I had.”
Positive Opinions: Furry Edition
There's a lot of negativity on your feed right now. Let's hear about things people like/enjoy/have had a positive effect! Retweet with lovely things.
SWEET ITS PRIDE MONTH WHICH MEANS—
Time for me to be told repeatedly and constantly that I’m not LGBT+ because I’m asexual and it’s not valid—
I LOVE PRIDE MONTHB
For over twenty years I’ve heard people argue “if we tax higher incomes at higher rates, rich people will just stop working at the cutoff and our economy will suffer,” and it always cracks me up because 1, rich people are greedy and will always choose some money over no money,
Chosen names are for anyone who wants to choose a different name. "I don't have to keep the name my parents gave me if I don't like it" is one of many great life lessons that cis people should learn from trans people.
I mean, I just don't believe any CEO who says "do these things for me, and in turn I'll support your cause/rights." You've already gotten yours. Don't make your support conditional on getting more. If you care about people's rights and causes, support them. Otherwise shut up.
Decade in review. Short bc we are going out for Chinese takeout.

Hi, I’m Kyell, I’m a furry writer, and I:
-used to collect coins from different countries
-have lived in Paris, France
-have visited 49 US states and ~31 countries
-have had only black and white pets (except a brown ferret briefly)
-have been a furry for 28 years and a 🦊 for 26
With the new Dev and Lee book in layouts right now, I'm reminded of the problem that I never anticipated when I set out to be an author: thirty-two books in, writing a dedication without being repetitive gets harder each time.
Yeah, the people who piled on Homer Hickam were immature but let’s not roll our eyes and go “as usual, furry Twitter,” because 1. We are all furry Twitter, 2. Furry Twitter is often awesome, 3. Non-furry Twitter is just as bad if not worse.
Quit self-shaming.
I've been reading cops on cop forums about the protests and the more I read.
It's not even the super evil stuff.
They just seriously don't get it and don't want to. Like the Buffalo incident. When people question them (other cops, not BPD ones) about it, it's normal to them.
Heartfelt thanks to the folks mentioning me as an inspiration. Gave me many wags.
For my part, I’ve been inspired and helped by many people over the years, but most recently
@DeoTasDevil

for all their work fighting nazis. ❤️
