On our first trip suddenly our driver stopped the gypsy and told us that Matkasur was on his usual patrol and was coming our way. The literal goose bumps that I had on witnessing his massive frame can still be felt by me today. Aptly named the King he came in the view....

He reigned over the core zone after dethroning the then dominant male Gabbar in around mid-2016-17. He successfully mated with several tigresses, most notably the iconic Maya and Chhoti Tara and sired a number of cubs. His #lineage defines many current sightings....

It was morning but being the month of #May it was warm and the #sun was harsh. After moving through the #jungle our guide took us towards the “Green waterhole”, so called because of green #algae in the water. The surroundings were quiet and no #predator calls were echoing.

We had booked #safari for the newly opened #Phato Tourism Zone in Corbett. The dense #Sal canopy interspersed with open #grasslands and various seasonal #rivers and streams along with numerous manmade and natural #waterholes makes it a drool worthy #wildlife spot.

I saw her in 2017 during her morning patrol. she was unfazed even at the sight of so many gypsies waiting for her and came within an arm's reach as she crossed us. the collared #queen still reigns and I hope to see more of her on my next trip.
