UPDATE: His application for review was dismissed this afternoon, and he will be hanged at dawn tomorrow, as scheduled. He was convicted of a cannabis charge in 2019.

5/ The first execution this year – of Tangaraju Suppiah – was carried out three weeks ago. Tangaraju was convicted of trafficking 1kg of cannabis, despite never having seen nor handled the drugs.

4/ Regardless, the judge found him guilty of trafficking around 1.5kg of cannabis. Trafficking in 500g of cannabis or more carries the mandatory death penalty in Singapore. If his appeal does not succeed, he will be executed at dawn on Wednesday.

3/ An application has been filed before the court, calling for a re-opening of his case, on the basis that DNA evidence and fingerprints only tied him to a much smaller amount of cannabis, which he admitted to being in possession of.

2/ The family of the 37 year-old Singaporean Malay man, who was convicted of trafficking around 1.5kg of cannabis, received the execution notice last Wednesday, and have asked for privacy.
