Unironically the people who design election signs in Canada need to learn from these. The cat mayor election people understand that signs can be used to communicate the platform and values of a candidate.

In the more modern era, candidates like Mark Carney thrive. Economists (35%) and public servants (23%) are among the jobs with the best success rate since 2000. #cdnpoli

When you look beyond just the most common occupations, there are some unexpected ones with high success rates. "Lumber Merchants" have 51 wins on 73 attempts (70%), helped by the fact that there were fewer candidates on the ballot in the early 1900s. #cdnpoli

"Lawyer" is the most common listed occupation on candidate forms since 1900, and almost half (47%) of all lawyers appearing on a ballot have won. Among professions with over 1000 candidates, only "Parliamentarian" (80% win rate) and "Physician" (46%) are as successful. #cdnpoli
