There was a really strange time in the early 2000s when genres and sub genres were far less defined. Leading to the "Clone" title. It started to become a negative badge to wear. Causing games to get sent into obscurity from the simple review of "oh its a _ clone"
it was called a “God of War” clone at the time but idc, Dante’s Inferno still goes hard and I would’ve loved to have seen EA move forward with a sequel
