Expanding the boundaries of freedom as president @ceidotorg -- for limited government, free enterprise and individual liberty -- embraces the quirks in us all.

Today I swam nearly 4,000 yards out to the Chesapeake. The dappled light of the creek gave way to shimmering ascendant rays that refracted through the blowing drops off my hands. The wind and water kicked up, moving to the southeast. It was spectacular. Slow, but ever so

This I believe, just as it is appropriate for a nation to police its own borders for the peace and tranquility of all people so too must political coalitions.

Thanks to friends at @iedm_montreal, today I’m wearing a tie featuring Frederic Bastiat. Here you see it. Just imagine the unseen.

David makes good points here about an excellent essay by @EWErickson. One of the nuggets: "A political tribe is a much more alluring narcotic than a faithful witness in politics."
https://t.co/ZphPpeFRtw I don't know if this one is behind the paywall or not, but I am just telling you that this @EWErickson piece is mandatory reading for all on the right trying to find some way to hold together the various things to pull them in all sorts of different ways

The county where I grew up has about 33 percent more people than cattle. The ratio for hogs is even more stark. I worked on those farms. This is the best economics explainer you’ll ever get. And! And it comes from an engineer/politician. @RepThomasMassie knows things.
The population of cattle in the United States is at its lowest levels since the 1960s, @RepThomasMassie explains why.

Collective action problems are often ignored by the technocrats who try to plan the future. Short video on geo engineering that spotlights the issue well.
Despite decades of effort and trillions in spending, global CO2 emissions in 2021 were 60% *higher* than they had been in 1991. Is the problem that we aren’t trying hard enough … or that we’re going about it the wrong way?

My morning was marked by well-informed students who want to learn more, do more, and shape the world we all will inherit. Congratulations to the participants in the @ReaganInstitute bootcamp. I pledged a small reward for whomever among you best reinterprets President Reagan's

There’s so much at stake in the US trade relationship with Canada. We are Canada’s top trading partner—by a mile—but Canada is our top export market as well. Nearly 8 million US jobs depend on trade with Canada. Americans benefit when we have more trade with Canada, not less.

What does that look like? Don't punish or prohibit recruiters to the American Communist Party or the KKK. Do allow the application of judgement when it comes to private discrimination against the intolerant and illiberal among us. In fact, celebrate it. -- fin

To resolve this paradox, we must distinguish between action in the public and private spheres of life. Do not censor, criminalize, or otherwise use the force of state coercion to minimize intolerance. But do use the state to advantage private responses to it. 3/4

His observations about how people actually behaved led him to the conclusion that an unlimited amount of tolerance in society leads to its own demise. There is necessarily a tension between freedom or liberty on one hand and safety on the other. 2/4

Karl Popper popularized what he called the Paradox of Intolerance. A short thread. 🧵 Popper argued that to maintain a tolerant society, members must be intolerant of intolerance. That is to say, if you undermine the liberties of others, you will not be tolerated. 1/4

Today, would you say that constitutional government is better or worse than it was in 2021?

Almost exactly four years ago, I wrote the following. "If the 20th century was a continued bombardment against the bulwarks of Constitutional government, the Biden Administration is a grotesque amalgam of Wilsonian progressivism, New Deal Expansions, and post-Great Society
