Before Tobey & Sam were bid adieu by Sony, work actually had begun on SPIDER-MAN 4, and I visited friends who were working on the Vulture's costume intended for actor John Malkovich. Once production shut down, all materials were turned in. I've sat on this for almost 15 years.
@blameitonloren
Sony either has it in storage, someone’s made off with it or it’s been destroyed. Those are the only possibilities I can think of. The company which made the wings and other props no longer exists.
@DolosGallo
Indeed he was. He was also responsible for fabricating Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man costumes in SPIDER-MAN 3. He said the web pattern on the costume was the hardest thing about making the costume.
@BaileysPodcasts
Over 50K young boys saw this sequence I wrote for KNUCKLES THE ECHIDNA issue 25 over 20 years ago, including possibly the writer &/or artist of that Superman & son scene, and not one person complained to say this was not how father & sons interacted.
My bad. It seems I DID have a pic where the John Malkovich body mold can clearly be seen as well as a pic showing the controls to manipulate the wings.The things one finds lying around on hard drives I haven't looked at for awhile & did so while searching for something else.
@HistorySonic
Thank you. As I told Alan, I really don’t remember specifics other than it was a pleasant conversation, and he surprised me by mentioning seeing the cover of SONIC 98 in the collection belonging to another Sonic Team member, which I sold to him in San Diego years ago.
This is just a rough draft for the title page I'm working out for THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES: BEGINNINGS. Still a lot to do but it gives the idea of what I'm going for.
1/It's been amusing to see some of the comments but I'd like to respond to some of the questions about SPIDER-MAN 4 now that I've consulted with my friend.
Work wasn't just commencing on SPIDER-MAN 4, but also 5 & 6. And there was no Mysterio costume in the works at the time.
In answer to numerous requests, here's a list of SONIC characters & concepts I own. The KNUCKLES cast will follow soon. Amazingly, I had somehow overlooked the inclusion of Harvey Who, so he should also be added to the list I've compiled.
Still not quite finished but getting close to the final version for the cover art to THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES: BEGINNINGS. Currently contemplating adding one more character but haven't decided which one. As it is, readers are going to be blown away by the why of this Who's Who cast
Sonic coming to Earth could have been a lot more fun and exciting (and more heartfelt) than him teaming up with James Marsden in the
@SonicMovie
as I depicted in this classic issue more than 22 years ago.
I’m convinced a lot of the so-called toxicity of Sonic fandom is the result of a lot of autistic fans trying to express themselves and not sure how to respond when discussion veers into a disagreeable direction. It’s an aspect of fandom no one wants to acknowledge but is needed.
I'm not sure why people are claiming I own the characters Princess Sally, Bunnie Rab-bot, Rotor & Antoine, but neither I or any other Sonic creator have ever laid claim to them. They are the property of SEGA and DiC (or whoever owns the DiC assets). I don't own Lupe either.
As
@SEGA
doesn’t want Sonic to have a girlfriend, are they establishing he’s a player, gay or asexual? Just what sort of image do they want him to have? These are the kinds of character questions writers ask all the time.
7/Lastly, I was never on-set. I never met Sam Raimi, nor did I ever see a copy of the script. All I did was visit a friend at his workshop and took some photos, which I kept under wraps because I was asked to at the time. And that's all I have to say about the matter.
6/During pre-production of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN with Andrew Garfield, the Costume Designer contacted my friend for info on how to make the web pattern for the new Spider-Man suits. My friend declined when no involvement or pay was being offered in exchange for the info.
I'm sorry, but this is a very poor cover design. It's SONIC issue 50, so where's Sonic? Why would a newbie be intrigued to read this, especially with a $7.99 price tag? Lest someone think I have it out for this book, I feel most new comics have poor cover designs.
2/My friend was part of the Frontline team that built those wings and clearly stated they did not exist at all during SPIDER-MAN 3. The team had only been working on SPIDER-MAN 4 for about 2 months before production shut down.
@flamyhotcheeto
If you think they look great in a photo, you should have seen them in person. I was thinking the 4th movie was going to be a major step up from the third.
It certainly looks like Xero and Sonic could make for a bad-ass team. You really have to wonder if the film production designer was taking cues from my Lara-Su designs.
If people think this Donkey Kong nonsense is going to keep me from moving forward, they really don’t know me very well. I’ve overcome a lot more than they ever will.
3/Despite claims of Angelina Jolie being cast as the Vulture's daughter, the Frontline team had been told Anne Hathaway was the frontrunner for that part, and were awaiting further info when to do the body cast.
@AlanTheWriter
@HistorySonic
Alan, thanks for the pic! To be honest, I think my reaction is due to Iizuka-san telling me he liked the Sonic cover one of the other Sonic Team members acquired from me years ago at San Diego. (The cover was SONIC 98.) Beyond that, I only remember it was a pleasant conversation.
40+ years after my father’s death and it’s only today I learned the last name he was born with:
Pędziwiatr
Actually, it’s spelled different in the 1940 US Census records, but that’s because the English-speaking Census Lister hadn’t a clue how spell it correctly in Polish.
5/After production was shut down, Sony didn't want anyone who had worked on the Spider-Man franchise in any way to be involved with any new film going forward as they wanted a totally fresh approach.
4/There were 6 sets of Vulture wings that were going to be constructed, each with a specific operation. 1 set was to be used for the flying sequences, 1 set to show movement up and down, 1 set when the villain was in a relaxed pose, and so on.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I came across this toy. I expect to see Shadow, maybe Rouge, definitely Sonic & Tails, possibly Knuckles and maybe Eggman. But Crabmeat? Is Princess Sally next?
While I don't begrudge anyone liking the
#KnucklesSeries
, I myself can't get past the Paramount+ trailer.
"What do you like to do?"
"Vengeance."
What the hell is that? That's not the character. My initial thought when I wrote his 1st story is he's a GUARDIAN, a PROTECTOR.
@UnchartedRobbie
The R&D figure is approximate but those wings were definitely not built during SPIDER-MAN 3. The information provided in the article is second hand reporting and someone got the timeline wrong. I didn't even meet my friend until 2008 as a result of a film project I was working on
I honestly don't understand who
@ParamountPics
thinks is going to see the
@sonic_hedgehog
film if the fan base doesn't sign on. It's not like they have the track record of a Pixar, Disney, Marvel or Illumination to expect people to automatically buy in.
Let’s see if I have this straight…
According to Ian, SEGA doesn’t want IDW to adapt any NEW SONIC games, nor do they want references to PREVIOUS SONIC games. That means…
Ta-da!
I had the right approach to doing SONIC comics all along.
@pinkdemonica
@BaileysPodcasts
Granted, one of Dad's more questionable acts, but he came clean with Knuckles. In the end, all that mattered was Locke was his dad, and they could work through anything. I refer to FATHER'S DAY in SONIC issue 143 for where they stood with each other in the final accounting.
Speaking of presentation pieces, this art was presented to SEGA executives during a breakfast meeting at a hotel in Hollywood. This was how I envisioned what would have been the cast of the first movie.
Finally finished the commission drawing a father asked me to do of his son posing with Knuckles. People have been stopping by just to watch me draw this piece. Knuckles assumed a very
#JackKirby
-esque pose so it influenced the overall layout.
I’ve locked in the characters for the initial release of my NFT set - Scourge, Julie-Su AKA Shade, Green Knuckles, Geoffrey St John & Robo-Robotnik. They will be priced at $100K each. As only buyers will be able to access additional bonus content, feel free to pass around the art
Congrats to the team responsible for
@SonicMovie
. You pulled off what my team wasn’t able to and I can appreciate all you had to get through to reach the finish line. Here’s to the inevitable sequel. You earned this. Here’s to your success.
I found the magazine with the cover art I did, but not sure if I still have the digital file I created the art with. Still, I highly doubt I could get away these days with submitting this or seeing it published even if accepted.
@Pat_Scamander
They had a complete body mold of John Malkovich from which they could fabricate the costume to fit before trying it on John. That I wasn’t allowed to photograph because they were told John’s casting wasn’t a done deal at the time.
After giving the matter much thought, I’ve decided I’m going to make my Kingdom of Acorn characters - including Geoffrey St John, Queen Alicia, Prince Elias and, yes, Scourge - available for licensing. I’m working out the details and there will be contracts involved. Stay tuned.
Since Twitter is promoting anti-trans nonsense, I can’t in good conscience continue to be associated with it much longer. I’m going to phase out completely using this platform by September 30. After that, my website will be the main resource for anyone to connect with me.
This is nowhere near finished, but I thought people might be interested in the progress I’m making on a commission piece while I work on THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES and everything else I need to take care of on my end.
I came across this piece I did way back for SONIC issue 145 - with colors by Amber Greenlee - that I'm making available as an 11 x 17 print. It's the only published piece I ever did featuring Shadow. I'll have it available at
@Comic_Con
and listed on my website soon.
@MsFeliciaRondo
I’d been meaning to post this sooner as I received permission to share it from those who were involved weeks ago. I can definitely keep a secret when asked.
I managed to make progress on my commissioned piece while working on other material, and thought some people might be interested in seeing how things are coming along.
This is far from finished, but for those interested, this is how page 36 from THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES: SHATTERED TOMORROWS is taking shape. Still a lot of details to work out.
Since people have been asking for details of my legal fight with Archie, I recommend the following;
(Scroll down to the bottom and read up)
(An actual court transcript)
I admit to being amused that the latest
@Avengers
film trailer references the most famous
#SonicTheHedgehog
storyline
@Archie
ever published. It was 22 years ago that I came up with the ENDGAME 4-parter.
I’m adding this to the selection of 11x17 prints I’m making available for sale at San Diego & mail order for a limited time only. The cost is $25 plus $17 shipping & handling payable via PayPal or Zelle.
IT IS MY CHARACTER!
According to the fans:
the "enerjak" part of the film isnt super in depth.
tails describes the origin of the master emerald, and describes that anyone who wields the power of the master emerald is able to take out entire armies and we see (Cont.)
I was asked by a Sonic fan to sign his copy SONIC FRONTIERS. Even though I told this person I had nothing at all to do with game, including the art, he still wanted my signature. I probably shouldn’t have signed it, but it’s Comic-Con and I hate to disappoint.
I'll never know the answer to this, but I wonder if the lack of Sonic's parents in the movie is a result of me featuring them in stories before anyone else. They just seemed like obvious characters necessary to the growth & development of Sonic.
Here's the original cover art for SHATTERED TOMORROWS. I may yet play around with this before it's final release, but there's a lot I like about what it conveys.
For those still interested, here's the next stage of the adult Tails drawing. I used a Number 2 Round brush with india ink along with a technical pen for minor line work on the wristbands & boots.
I've been commissioned to do a piece featuring multiple Sonic characters, and this is where I'm currently at. I'll keep updating this as I make progress. The finished piece will be in color.
The last day of Wonder Con has started. Not feeling my best but I’ll get through the day. The shirt - as well as other gifts not pictured - are courtesy of a group of fans of which I’m appreciative for. I really was scrambling to pull it together for this con.
Here's a look at the title page for my forthcoming THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES: BEGINNINGS collecting the entire run of my M25YL story, followed by all-new material THE STORM and the opening chapter of SHATTERED TOMORROWS. Data Files & Bonus Extras are also included.
Available now! On the LEFT is the KNUCKLES print for $25.00. On the RIGHT is the LARA-SU LIMITED EDITION SIGNED & NUMBERED print for $40. S&H is $15 for one or both. I can either invoice the buyer upon request or payment can be made via PayPal to KenPenders

.com.
For the record, so I don’t have to deal with questions later on, Lara-Su is 16, has already had sex, and there’s no such labels as “bi-“ or “gay” among her people because someone’s sex is irrelevant to everything but procreation.
As promised, here's Part A of the KNUCKLES characters I own. Before I get a zillion responses why Shade isn't listed, she & SONIC CHRONICLES are covered by the copyrights for Julie-Su, the Dark Legion, and various stories featuring Enerjak & the Dark Legion.
Here's something for the SONIC fans. I didn't receive a copy of the SatAM series bible until I was working on ENDGAME. Had I received this BEFORE I wrote my 1st story, it's easy to envision myself taking a different approach from the path I did.
This is the last time I will say anything regarding SONIC ARMAGEDDON as this relates the whole odyssey from start to finish. Nothing more need be said.
I'm not going to promise daily updates, as this weekend that won't be possible, but I did manage to complete Princess Sally among everything else I had to do. This is the version intended for SONIC ARMAGEDDON.
My last reveal from THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES here on Twitter, the character High Councilor Devan as seen in SHATTERED TOMORROWS. I took out the background so the context wouldn't give the game away.
In case anyone's interested, I didn't have BTS photos of the Vulture's wings. I personally took those pictures on my Sprint Instinct phone, which I was pretty happy with at the time. Once they no longer supported it, it was easy to make the switch to the iPhone.
I showed the spelling to my Polish translator and they were the ones who informed me of the correct spelling. That happened a lot to immigrants back then. My grandfather would legally change the family name to Penders when my father was 8 yrs old.
I've decided to resolve the Wiki issue. Since THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES is PG-13, I'm revising Geoffrey's Data File to reflect the following:
Among Geoffrey's many intimate sexual partners include the Princess of Acorn Kingdom and the heir to Cyberdark Colony.
At long last I’m happy to present the team working on a character I originally co-created with Mike Kanterovich in the very first story we sold to Archie Comics. What a long strange trip it’s been, and I’m looking forward to seeing their release of SCOURGE THE SPEED DEMON.
I’ve submitted the following as the final layout subject to approval. The Freedom Fighters are now complete and Enerjak has his Dark Legion assembled. Once approval is given, I will begin inking the piece after tightening up a spot here and there.
Day 4. Last Day, Capricorn… er, that’s another timeline. Top marks if you get the reference. Made it in early so I could get a great parking spot in the Convention Center garage. Also doing a shout-out to the fans who sent me the shirt as a gift. It’s appreciated.
Yeah, I made a mistake, but I corrected it and am now moving on and moving forward. I plan to have this Fully completed prior to the San Diego Comic-Con. Still work to be done on everyone but Princess Sally. Lien-Da's coloring is more in line with THE LARA-SU CHRONICLES.
Despite the naysayers here on Twitter, MANY people coming out of the movie are contacting me to either congratulate or inform me of the
@SonicMovie
2’s use of my characters and story.
