I (a teenage brat) was quietly skeptical about these protests when I was a student. Not only did they succeed, UChicago immediately memory-holed all the counterarguments they raised! That changed my view of the potential for campus protest to change "real" policy. 1/3

New @The_JOP research with the inspiring @feiyonah on how local media portrayals of the #InternationalCriminalCourt shift in response to #ICC activities against politicians. There's still much to learn re: how #transitionaljustice info reaches the public.

What are your favorite examples of published papers with null findings? I’m particularly interested in experiments where the researchers hypothesized some effect, but didn’t find it.

Really happy to share this article about how civilians weigh their (bad) options when facing political violence. I hope you will consider reading it, citing it in your work, or assigning it to your students. I'd be very grateful. Here's a medium-long thread on the main ideas🧵
How do people choose survival strategies during intense, surprising political violence? @amilliff develops a novel decision-making theory focused on individual appraisals of how controllable & predictable violent environments are in this #APSRFirstView

1/ FSU is hiring in IR! I cannot say enough good things about the department here – a place so collegial that I enjoy faculty meetings. I am happy to answer questions about the department/position, but for now, let me say some things about the city of Tallahassee.

One of the most surprising things I've learned from being a parent is how frequently I rely on unhelpful and unintentional gendered assumptions. This work is super important.
Father's leave reduces sexist attitudes. Margit Tavits, @PetraSchleiter, @j_homola, & Dalston Ward exploit paternity leave's effect on traditional gender roles to assess how it affects sexism in the socioeconomic and political domains. #APSRFirstView. https://t.co/adVkej6Yrr

Very excited to see "Fathers' Leave Reduces Sexist Attitudes" (with Margit Tavits, @PetraSchleiter, @WardDalston) online @apsrjournal. We show that tripling paternity leave in Estonia in 2020 increased attitudes towards gender equality among parents. https://t.co/2OVy2OXgII

So happy to see this very interesting paper coming out! This finding substantially changes the way I think about rally effects. Congrats Yusaku and TJ.
I am happy to report that the following paper with TJ Seo is now forthcoming from the Journal of Conflict Resolution. TJ is still an undergrad student at Dartmouth, and it is based on his independent research project! I will write more once it is published online.
