Any politics that wants to democratise society and the economy, that wants to give people control over their lives, has to develop the democratic capacities of those participating. This means open, democratic and collective deliberation of strategy. Discuss ideas reject gossip.
Political journalism tends to reduce politics to personal gossip. The algorithms of social media reward outrage and scandal mongering. Taken together they create modes of behaviour and thought that are the opposite to those we need to build institutions of mass solidarity.

Whenever you catch yourself excited by political gossip or conspiracy theorising you should pause and question yourself. Are you being animated by the incentive systems built into social media? Have you failed to break with the mode of politics fostered by the mainstream media?.

While it's true the undercover cops often tried to ferment and exacerbate division in my experience they absolutely weren't the most radical. They were always the least political and never took part in political debate. Instead they cast themselves as cynical but practical.

If you are in politics and activism, of any kind, always keep an eye out for characters like this that come from nowhere. Particularly if they magically have a free van!.
