Indian authorities must stop using overbroad reasons like those of 'public safety' to impose internet shutdowns over millions of people. Authorities in Punjab must immediately restore internet access in all districts.

We call on the U.S. government to demand that the Indian government immediately end these practices, restore civil liberties, and ensure due process for the detained and arrested Sikhs. Together, we must uphold our core democratic values and protect human rights.

I hope Punjab is over the era of fake encounters and illegal detention. Charge accordingly if someone is guilty of a crime but you will be committing a state crime if any individual is harmed. We will not tolerate a fake encounter, @narendramodi nor @BhagwantMann . Shutting down

The State of Punjab in India, where most of the world's Sikhs hail from, is roughly twice the size of Vermont. Imagine an area that large losing access to much of its Internet while the police execute the arrest of a single individual. In a purported democracy. How is that right?

The internet & cell phone shutdown in #India violate human rights and is destroying people’s lives and livelihoods. For #Sikhs, #Kaurs and #Sikh women this shutdown also takes away crucial opportunities & exacerbate the inequality and injustice.
