Motion capture of humans is not as straightforward as tracking a ball. Many more decisions about data processing to be made, such as filter level, marker set (if an optoreflective system), and joint-centre and axes of rotation definitions, just to name a few.
MLB doesn’t have a standardized system for biomechanics data and it’s holding teams back. Unlike pitch tracking (Hawk-Eye, Trackman), biomechanics varies team to team, creating a massive gap in how player movement is measured and understood. @drivelinekyle breaks it down in a

I'm seeing a lot of MLB orgs adding Biomech roles interpreting the data for coaches & players. They also seem to be lower level roles. For me this is backwards. Applying Biomech to the individual is the hardest bit, it requires the most knowledege and experience, not the least

As a biomechanist with an interest in assessing technology, I feel a duty to say that the Motus/Pulse sensor can underestimate elbow torque by up to 40 Nm. This is alarming when Fleisig's data shows a 10-Nm higher elbow torque increases the risk of UCL surgery by 26%.
